Immediately or Set Up?

How are you with your meals? You prefer your food immediately as finished cooking or to set up a bit?

I ask this as my wife always gets our meals completed and the second it’s done she lets me know it’s ready and urges me to get in there and make my plate. While I greatly appreciate her cooking skills and willingness…..the vast majority of our meals/foods I prefer to sit there a couple minutes and “set up” a bit.

Exceptions: steak (which is always me and the grill), eggs, pancakes…literally everything else, probably a 100 foods I prefer to be set up a bit.

Foods I strongly prefer set up: lasagna, pizza, noodles, fish, scalloped potatoes

How bout you

I prefer to eat while it's still hot, but not so hot it burns my mouth.

The only thing I'd consider letting rest is a steak, but only for a minute or two and that's usually about the time it takes from grill to fixing my plate.

I have a time trying to time out my foods we have with steak. We often go corn on cob and baked potato. Also need a bigger plate to cut steak, prep potato. Definitely 1st world troubles I know.

Most meats I do the standard foil for 5 minutes off the grill.

I would never let anything else just sit there to the point I have to then heat it up. I like to eat hot food. No I dont want it to burn my mouth, but room temp food sounds gross.

The lasagna would have to sit on the counter for 2 hours to get to room temp lol

Ok….so 2 hours is an exaggeration but that thing coming out in that cooking dish…..it would take forever to reach room temperature (which no one wants that way but was the comment)

You cooking that thing at 6,000 degrees then storing it in a damn thermos? Take the lasagna to the plate out of the oven. It'll cool to a perfect warmth by the time you sit down to eat it. Maybe a few minutes or a few blows to cool the first few bites.

21 years in the military, I don't wait for the food. As soon as it's done, I eat as quickly as possible.

Since I don't think I have ever even heard of this "set up" thing, I'm guessing that means when it comes to food, I don't fuck around and the only answer is that if I'm hungry and there's food being cooked, I'm on it as soon as it's ready.

Steaks are about the only thing to let "rest" for a few minutes. Other than that eat it when its done.

I understand how lasagna can be boiling hot right away, plus I normally like lasagna better day 2 and reheated anyway.

But even day 1 I just take a few minutes getting the plate ready before eating it.
