Looks like a lot of wasted money
All for it. My brother and his family live near Chicago and I'd love to be able to get there in 30 minutes. I'd also love a CLE to Columbus to Cincinnati route.

I wonder how long the time will actually be when you factor in going through security, boarding, etc. Will there be much of a difference compared to flying? I also have not seen estimates on what a ticket will cost.
Who is paying for it? This has boondoggle written all over it, so hopefully it will be privately funded. Cincinnati couldn't even get a basic streetcar right.

Dont know about this in particular, but I think its private. Elon Musk is the one who wants to, and has started to develop plans, for a nationwide one.

It's all private money. In Maryland, Musk has started digging under a utility permit to start the process of trying to link DC and Baltimore. The state of Maryland is all for it as it is stipulated it would all be private funds, no state funds.
The technology is not there yet though. Outside of the very limited and not that realistic test out west, it is not proven it can work. It is unknown if the engineering can hold up in real world tests. Will the vibrations from nearby roads screw with the vacuum? I know folks that have looked at from an investment point of view and determined it is not yet mature enough to invest.
In terms of cool technologies, I would support the Maglev system more than the hyperloop.

Im all for getting places extremely fast. The price will likely take me out of this initially however.
Regardless of the price point though, Id prefer they just build up on existing train lines and create a high speed train system connecting the US. Im not as smart as Elon Musk or others, but it seems that would be a better starting point.

Yeah, and they are digging under the Maryland portion of 295/BW Parkway in Baltimore as well.
Amtrak is trash and there is no way they can run higher speed rain up to New York considering all the choke points. It would simply cost too many billions to do.
Hyperloop is just too untested where as the Maglev would be a new track, new right of way, and actual proven technology. Maglev would almost certainly happen before the hyperloop or Amtrak higher speed rain.

Drive 6.5 hours (DEPENDING ON FUCKING CHICAGO TRAFFIC!), Gas $70-$80 plus wear on auto.
Fly, 90 minutes plus boarding and TSA, $225-$250.
Amtrak which I agree sucks horribly, $60 for getting on in Cleveland at 3am.
I would pull the trigger at $150-$175

Would depend on the time it took and how many back and forth a day. If I have to get a hotel in Cleveland, that’s gonna be another variable. If I can get to Cleveland, catch a game, and be back home in Chicago before midnight...my price point goes way higher.
