If you could go back in time and change careers at the start of it, would you?

If you were starting your career now, would you pick the same one you're already in again?

Mine is a little different.

Would I join the military again straight out of high school? Yes.

Do I wish that I had maybe chose a different job in the Navy? Sometimes

As far as my chosen profession after I retired from the Navy, I don't regret it at all.

If I had Biff Tannen's "Grays Sports Almanac" in career form, and knew the technology/how I could set up my business, I'd restart my career in the same industry, use the cheat codes (how to set up departments, leveraging other team members skills, etc) and would've retired at 40.

I always think I would. Then I realize I just wouldn't like doing that either. I just don't like working in general.

Industry? No.

Job within this industry? Every time.

I mean, with how the world of politics has gradually gotten more and more stupid by the year, if I could turn back time, I'd find a way to monetize that stupidity from the start. Start up a line of low-quality merchandise revolving around one candidate or another, mark up the price for it and rake in $$$ off the stupid rubes who get off on all that stuff.

I love the field I’m in now but I would go back and get in it earlier or knowing how my wife’s career would go, I would probably go into teaching because my salary doesn’t matter but it would be nice to help the community and have great benefits and retirement from it. Would also let’s us do a ton of traveling in the summer and during winter break that my current schedule doesn’t allow.

my entire career has been in technology in some shape or form. i don't think I could manage in a non-tech field.

In terms of education, I'd probably audible and go to a vocational school instead of college.

I have two complete different thoughts. I’d probably still be in the business realm if I go college route, but probably not this current job.

No college I think a trade where you can own your own business and just not suck would be cool. Mainly because fuck managing people. I don’t know how you can be a 40+ woman (I have 3 under me) and bring your bullshit and emotions to an easy ass job. Just shut the fuck up and do your work. It’s infuriating. /end rant.

I would have become an airline pilot.  I would have loved being a long-haul pilot.  I wanted to do that when I was young.  But I thought the only route in was via the military.  Back then that was much more true than it is today.  Anyway, I was not accepted into a flight training officer's slot in the service, so I moved on.

In hindsight, I wished I'd better informed myself as to alternative ways to get to this goal.  It was my own fault, I did not properly investigate it and made too many assumptions.

All this said, I think I ended up where I'm supposed to be.  Other careers always look great - especially when you're having a bad day.  But - not to sound corny - but happiness comes from within.  You can be a miserable rock star or a happy-as-can-be janitor.

I’d be in some form of international business and fluent in another language.
