LOCKED: George Floyd

So the initial post was on instagram, and then someone screenshotted it and posted in on twitter.

Seeing pictures of police pointing a gun at a child (who’s sitting on her fathers shoulders) during the riots. 
You get the “who brings a child to a protest?!” Group and the “who points a gun at a child?!” Group and they’re just going back and forth. Neither are wrong, yet they’re arguing like there’s a winning side and a losing side. 
 

Social media really sucks, but it especially sucks during times like these. 

Bet that chick complains when the cops bust her house party.

While I dont agree with using that language, insinuations and platform to express that.....she does have a right in this country to do so and losing her job over seems like her rights are violated

Just be mad to yourself. Why does everyone age 20-29 have to tell everyone their opinion on everything all the while also knowing everything? I’m 45 and I’m ignorant on more topics than I’m not, but every 25 year old knows everything.

If you owned a business, and an employee posted something incredibly racist on their social media, would you or would you not fire them? I would fire them instantly. No rights violated, they wouldn't be arrested.

But what about the scholarship and college admission?  Let's assume it's a state/public university that receives taxpayer money...

That's definitely different, though I'm not sure what school she goes (went?) to.

Even public schools have codes of ethics and conduct. I’m sure it’s in there. 
 

CC confusing rights and consequences is not a shock in the least.

Yesterday a brand new Harley cruised down our street. The rider appeared to be in his early 80's. Of course, the turn signal was on. I am worried about his well being.

I went to IU. It’s literally the second fucking thing in the Code of Student Rights, Responsibilities, & Conduct. I’d bet good money every single institution in America has one similar.

Further clarification. She just graduated HS and was to attend Arizona Christian University, so she hadn't even made it to campus yet.

I read it and the replies.

She is absolutely a moron and made a terrible decision. No doubt about that. The thing I have a hard time with is "ruining" opportunities for people to better themselves and get educated. Not just her in this situation, but this is a continuous thing on social media about "blasting" people to their employers, schools, teams, etc. Digging up everything from family, significant others, bosses, etc.

People should face a consequence for their actions. But, is it truly necessary to harm their future? I have a real hard time with that. Sure, report them to the potential people they may be associated with. Does it need blasted? Is there a point where we can address it individually, or with a few close people to report it? If nothing is done, then take the next step.

I just can't see calling for everything to be terminated for someone for saying something. Send them through counseling. Make them do some community service. I just think there are better approaches than putting someone "on blast."

Today I saw a high schooler get expelled and a freshman applicant to my alma mater get rescinded. These kids need to learn to stay the F off social media with their opinions. Stuff didn’t really exist when I was going into college but man, keep your shitty opinions off a public forum. Same goes with professionals, there is always someone who is willing to pass it on. No one cares, that’s what Serious Business is for. 

I’m honestly shocked that “trump supporter” isn’t a thing with college admissions. Lol. Someone who says they support trump is not allowed in their university. I bet you that’s coming soon. 

I'd probably say the scholarship is a privilege.  But while what she said was insensitive and offensive, I don't think it was threatening and I don't think it warranted rescinding admission (if it was a public university).   Especially with many liberals arguing college education is an entitlement/right, exercising your free speech certainly wouldn't revoke it just because people don't like what you said.

Also, the real outrage here is that apparently full rides for cheerleading is a thing.  I'm sorry, but just because a bunch of 3rd-rate gymnasts get hurt at a high rate doesn't make it a sport.
