What's the dumbest injury you've ever had?

We got home from a week in Charleston last night and I apparently forgot the layout of our house. I was coming down stairs with a few things in my hands and missed the last step. Hear a loud crunch in my ankle and took a tumble to the ground. I don't think I broke anything but it's definitely sore and swollen.

I pulled a muscle in my side putting on a shoe a couple months ago.

Shot my rubber boot with a bb gun when I was a kid, the BB hit the rubber, reversed course and hit me square in the forehead.

Drove downtown BG during college for a night out and did the responsible thing walking back to our apartment.  On the way back, ran ahead to use the restroom and someone had moved the concrete base to a USPS mailbox in the middle of the sidewalk

Never saw it and pretty sure I broke my toe while chipping my front teeth on the pavement.

Was playing kickball in college. A girl I was good friends in was up and I was pitching. She kicked it on the ground right back to me. Instead of just gently tossing the ball and hitting her I was going to peg her with the ball in her ass. When I let go of the ball I partially tore my rotator cuff. I didn’t have surgery but had to let it heal over time. I lost a ton of strength in that shoulder.

Detailing a SUV and I was on a two step ladder to reach the top and my ladder was near the ledge of my driveway (about a 4 foot drop into the neighbors gravel driveway) as I finished the top I stepped down and missed the step and dropped about 6 feet onto my side….biggest “THUD” in history. I  laid there a minute and no one was around to help. I got up and about 5 min later remembered how to breathe again.

Walking the golf course about 20 years back….birdied 1st and 4th holes….was -2 going to the par 4 drive able 5th…..smoked a drive onto the green. On way down hill carrying my golf bag I step off the edge of the  to be constructed cart path and went down, pretty sure was out of it for a minute. Woke up, clubs and bag everywhere and my ankle was blew up. No one around again, gathered clubs and badly limped up the hill, passed the eagle putt from 10 feet and down the next par 4 to my car.

What's the dumbest injury you've ever had?

1. when i was 15 or so i tripped up the stairs at a friends house. i suspected i broke my big toe but didn't go to the doctor for it. i had my mom splint it and i continued about my life.

i later started experiencing issues with the foot, which continued well into adulthood. a few years ago i got annoyed and went to the doctor for said issues they confirmed that i had indeed broken the toe and it hadn't healed properly, and it was the cause of the issues i was having. they drove a screw into the "point" of my toe and completely immobilized the joint (so i cant bend my big toe anymore).

2. right in the middle of covid, i was going down the stairs half-asleep. i don't recall exactly how it happened, but i ultimately missed the bottom 4-5 steps and landed on my right elbow. after i checked my phone to see if i had broken the screen in the fall (i hadn't), i realized i had a new elbow in the vicinity of my humerus. got a plate and 8 screws for that one.

When I was like 10, I was holding on to the baseball dugout with one hand, swinging around, fell and broke my arm when I put it out to brace my fall.

Not an injury, but got shocked by the damn smoke alarm wires yesterday. I had to rewire the adapter part back on to the live wires bc my wife ripped out the whole thing instead of simply pulling the adapter plug out of it.

2 soccer injuries. For the record i'm not a soccer player and while i think i'm athletic i really am not.

1. i was trying to help my son get more power on his PK shots, after watching a bunch of youtube tutorials we went to the yard to practice and i tried to demostrate it for him and kicked the ground and ball as the same time. As hard as i could. Broke my big toe.

2. Was shucking balls for my son at the soccer field while he was practicing corners and shots. Tried to kick one back to him and my nuts bounced off my leg and i somehow ended up with testicular torsion and needed an emergency urologist (i got a 28 year old female recently out of UPMC med school) who successfully untwisted them, and then they did a surgery to like attach them somehow to prevent them from twisting again. truly a low point in my life.

Just now. Re-stringing my glove before a softball game tonight since the leather snapped last game. Pushing the tool through and cracked my fingernail.

ah shit i forgot one.

when i was 8, we were playing hide and go seek in our house with old wooden floors. while running around, i got a splinter in my left foot. attempts at getting the splinter out were unsuccessful and it ultimately turned into a massive blood infection. i was admitted to the hospital and they had to surgically lance/drain it and pump me full of antibiotics. i was in the hospital for 3 days.

This actually wasn’t bad but could have been and definitely made my wife think I died.

I was having really bad panic attacks. Went to the hospital twice in two days. The panic attacks elevated my blood pressure so they gave me blood pressure medicine and a pill to take water off of me. Well I didn’t really need these it was the panic attack causing the high blood pressure. So I wake up that night with a Charlie horse in each leg. I stand up really fast to straighten my legs out and get the cramps out. Well my blood pressure was so low that when I stood up so fast I passed out. I luckily first fell into a dresser before falling into the wall head first. My head put in big hole in the wall. I did stand up again really fast to assure my wife I was fine and laid on the bed recovering. Funny thing is it was the most normal I felt for like a month because the pain took my anxiety away for a little bit. I went about a month without working because the attacks were so bad. Since then I’ve had minor attacks  that last a few minutes but nothing like that month.

Hope all goes well with the anxiety. Small dose of meds can take the edge off.

About 4-5 years ago, I was coaching football. School had just gotten out and practice was about to begin. We always had about a 150 yard jog from the locker room to the practice field. For whatever reason on this day, I couldn't do the jog because of the immense pain coming from testicular region. It was sharp, painful, and I knew something wasn't right - so I just walked out instead of jogging and was hoping whatever was going on would pass.

Well 2.5 hours later practice is over (and I was totally worthless as an assistant coach that day) and I can barely walk now. I mean each step, brutal pain down in my balls. I know something isn't right now. I get home, wife takes me to the ER.

Long story short they diagnose me with testicular epididymitis. Some meds and rest did wonders. But man, that pain....it was almost knocking me over.

I’m on the smallest dose possible now and I’ve been good for about 15 years with very minor attacks maybe once a year.
