Do you have Summer Fridays?

It usually goes from MDW to LDW for my company. But in the past few years it's been rather BS. Big cuts post Covid resulted in us running very lean, so we needed "coverage" meaning someone had to stick around in case shit hit the fan (it rarely did). We actually only got to have a few over the course of the past two summers.

Now my company is getting acquired and we're all probably getting shitcanned in the next few months, so they started them a few weeks early. Now I'm committed to cutting out early every Friday no matter fucking what.

How about you?

It's one of the things I miss most about the military. Always cut out early on Fridays and almost always combine a Friday off with a federal holiday on a Monday. I've even been at commands that when not under an operational umbrella implemented a 4-day work week. It really helps recharge the crew.

My hours are more or less what I decide they are as long as my work gets done. I'll duck out early any day of the week if the weather warrants it and I'm at a good stopping point. My manager has the same philosophy so while there are times I think I want to leave for a new opportunity, it's really hard to walk away from the flexibility that I have.

Same. I work from home on Wednesdays & Fridays and am usually wrapped up by 2:15pm on those days. My office phone rolls to my cell so I can take a call anytime but I'm usually mowing lawn by 3pm on Fridays.

That's how I've gotten things worked out at my job, too. If my stuff is done, I have no issue with working* from home if the alternative is sitting in the office being bored.

*work not necessarily included.

I work Monday - Thursday 10 hour days. We work 7:30-5:30 with an hour lunch. The first hour we don’t really do anything and people show up 15-20 mins late. Then the first patients come in around 8:15 and start with a tech and then see the Dr by 8:30. The last full patients come in at 4:10 and are usually done by 5:00. Then at 5:00 we see any emergency appointments and those are usually 5-10 min appointments. We close the whole office from 1-2 for lunch hour.

Friday is my work from home day so it’s mostly ordering and getting caught up on calls. It’s essentially a day off.

My company works Monday - Thursday, 10 hours per day. We have been doing this for a year, and everybody loves it. I am so used to 3 day weekends now it would be difficult to go back to a 5 day workweek.

If my job went back to 5 day work weeks I would demand more time off or find a job working remote from home. I’ve gotten spoiled being able to hop in the car or a plane on Thursday night and fly back on Sunday night to enjoy weekends out of town

How about you?

my previous job offered 4x10's to us with a friday (or a monday) off. i also worked in a support role so adding an hour before/after my day meant that those two hours added to my workday were incredibly slow. most of the people we supported weren't there between 7a-8a and 4p-5p.

i did it for a pay period and then opted out of it.

on a similar subject, after covid we transitioned to weekly rotations of WFH. someone would be on-site that week and everyone else would be WFH, then we'd rotate every week. i found myself going mad during my 100% WFH weeks.

we converted to a ~50% rotation of WFH/on-site and it was much preferable to me.

my current job is basically "i dont care how it gets done, just make sure your timesheet says 40 hours". still getting acclimated to it. last week i had 36 hours at the end of wednesday and it felt weird.

I work from home when I am not traveling (travel about 30% of time) and even on weeks I am traveling I am usually home on Fridays (I try to schedule it that way).

With that said, most Friday's I work from our camper staring out on the lake, I will listen in on conference calls, take calls from our sales team and/or customers but hardly ever really do hard "thinking/engineering" work on Fridays from the camper, and I am almost ALWAYS done early, taking big breaks for golf cart or boat rides, etc.

I could have taken off early today, but I also have the Reds game streaming in the background. With the current state of the game (middle of the 7th and a certain type of game in the works), I can't leave. I don't want to be the reason it gets messed up.

Fuck! I shouldn't have posted about it. It was my fault afterall.

I’m traveling for work today so that’s something, I guess.

We have a 6/30 year end and I still have days left, so took today and probably will take the rest.

I am working from our lake camper on the porch of it once again today. Will definitely be a short total day, maybe 4-5 hours total and the conference call I was listening in on the way down here counts towards that 4-5 hours, lol.
