Coronavirus Pandemic: 5,512 cases in Ohio, 213 deaths
https://www.whio.com/home/coronavirus-pandemic-what-you-need-know-today/JAA2PG3GLBEAZIZWHOABNFP2EM

About halfway down:

  • STOP THE PARADES: Such events that feature a line of vehicles filing past a child celebrating a birthday, for example, need to remain in line with the governor’s stay-at-home order, which states (among other things) that people should leave home only for essential activities. County Health Commissioner Jeff Cooper said “parades do not meet the intention of the order. They need to be discontinued. It’s not fun to say, but that’s the reality of where we are right now.”

That guy's lost the plot.

They may be jerks, but they are awesome jerks:

Is county health commissioner an elected official? I’d love to vote against that guy next time his term is up.

The other day the local news showed a few cop cars showed up to a 4-year olds house briefly for his birthday. So this fool is telling us that isn’t safe? GTFO.

Given the scary models that have scared people shitless and numbers falling far under those models being humped hard as attributing to strict social distancing get used to this kind of irrational behavior.

My wife and I enjoy taking a ride around town looking at things. We don’t get out of the car.  According to the rules, this is not “essential”. I feel like it’s good for the mental health.  Some of our sights are the full parking lots at the grocery store and the Dollar General. 🤦‍♂️

Fuck that guy. As long as you do the social distancing while doing it, who cares? Safer than going to an “essential” business anyway.

Essential activities or no, anecdotes like OTrap's (baseball player) scare me shitless.

Can’t you guys just stay inside? I mean it’ll be like a month or two more. You have to drive around, do birthday party parades, let your kids play with other kids, etc. I mean is it really that difficult for you guys to just stay inside?

Not personally.  This has barely changed our routine.  The biggest bummer has been not being able to have a smoke at my local tobacconist's place.

Same. I’m perfectly fine sitting in my apartment from the second I wake up in the morning to the second I fall asleep at night. Do I normally do that? No. But can I do it for a short period of time due to a global pandemic? Sure.
I will go on the occasional walk here and there, but other than that I’m staying inside. I’m not trying to be hospitalized on a ventilator because I wanted to have a stupid street parade for a 3 year olds birthday.

Ah cool the people without kids are going to start telling the people with kids how easy and simple it is to stay inside for 3-4 months straight.

I stopped reading after this:

In the face of a broadening consensus on both the left and the libertarian right that sees marijuana as mostly healthy and even a positive in some circumstances, Berenson argued that the evidence instead shows a link between the drug and serious mental illness and an epidemic of violence.

lol

That deserves a hearty 'Okay boomer'.

I guess our definition is going to be rewritten after this fucking thing is gone.  Healthy will just be defined as whether your immune system can take a beating without killing you.

Which just means it'll be defined after the fact.

"This 72-year-old alcoholic with a chain smoking addiction survived.  Must've been healthy."

"This 21-year-old athlete with an impeccable diet and workout regimen was killed.  Must not have been healthy."

Instead, we could maybe look at the cases and go, "Huh ... maybe there are other factors besides whether or not people already had compromised immune systems."

I know you do. But you’ve also said your lifestyle and routine wasn’t going to be affected by this as much.

How is someone going to catch a disease sitting in their car and having no physical contact with anyone? There are ways to still be able to do some activities and be safe about it. Hell, one of the dumb parades I saw had police and fire depts.
If I didn’t have kids I could easily sit in my house all day. But if I want to drink a beer outside while talking to my neighbor 6 feet apart, I’m going to do it bc no one is spreading anything that way.

To save lives, yeah it’s pretty easy. In a normal situation where there is no such thing as a coronavirus then sure that would be extremely difficult. But there’s a global pandemic where people are dying and you can’t just stay inside your house (or go on a walk around your neighborhood or hang in your backyard) for a few months?
But you’re also the same guy who works at a hospital during all this and still decided to go to the gym—which is probably the dumbest thing ever, sooo..

It's been easy for me. I miss my family and friends, but staying inside is not difficult.

You’re getting the police involved because you’re having a stupid parade for a child’s birthday party. They don’t know what’s going on but they have to come out and investigate because there’s a stay at home order and people are getting in their cars and driving down the street to wish happy birthday to a kid. It’s pretty stupid if you ask me.

And I never said there’s anything wrong with standing outside your house 6 feet apart from your neighbor and having a beer.

That’s how I feel too. Obviously no one wants to be in this situation but if it means stopping the spread of a deadly disease, I’d say it’s pretty easy to do
