1100 Sat and 1300 today but Marion Prison over 1800 inmates positive test.....wondering if the vast majority of the huge numbers jump is there.

That's over 70%!  It's interesting that it didn't spread on cruise ships like that, but a French aircraft carrier just had over half it's crew test positive.

Obviously it's much tougher, if not impossible, for social distancing in those situations. Just more anecdotal evidence of how quickly and easily this spreads.  NYC opens back up and everyone gets on the subway again, how will at least 50% of the people not get this in a few months?  That probably goes for all major metro areas.  Better hope masks help slow the spread.

33 year old nurse in Wellington (next town over from where I grew up) died from it after being exposed to it. I have a younger sister and a niece (her husband's also a nurse) who are nurses. That would be one of the last professions I'd want to be in right now.

I skip through this thread so sorry if I’m repeating but saw where the news showing pictures of very busy beaches in Florida but then web cams of those beaches on twitter showed hardly anyone

Yep media was using old pictures when in reality police were on the beaches making sure people were staying apart

Italy had its lowest daily cases today since March 10th and for the first time the active number of cases dropped.

You think you’re going to catch it in the ocean? I just have a problem with city people, especially the worst city for it, complaining about Floridians who are way less likely to catch the disease. Same fucks who complain about North Dakota (population 900,000) for not doing a stay at home order. Worry about your own shit.

So, because the country's hardest-hit area (by far) has huge issues because essentials are forced to be packed in together on subways and shit (hell, I have an acquaintance who works in emergency medical who got transferred there to help), no one should ever complain about anything ever pertaining to non-essentials willingly doing shit because they want to.

I can't imagine working in the medical field right now. Nope, nope, nope.

I know one thing, people aren't riding the subways regularly for non-essential purposes. Residents are quite aware of how gross is it down there. I was actually surprised to see them deep cleaning cars at the end of lines, this was in early March. Personally, I can't fucking wait to get back to normal commuting.

It is extra money. Worth it pay-wise? Unless she's able to retire solely based on this trip, it wouldn't be in my personal opinion, but as an emergency responder-type, her perspective might be a bit different than mine on what has what value. At least when she FB posted that she was going, her mood seemed to be more like "this is gonna be freaky, but it's my job" instead of "FML, this is pure shit!"

Side note:  Looks like we've found one scenario in which public transportation is FAR less preferable.  Granted, it's a very specific, very infrequent scenario.  But it's also a pretty significant one, with a lot riding on it (pardon the pun).

Yeah. That is right. Public transit agencies are losing money hand over fist. DC Metro lost over $50M in revenue already over the last month. NYC subway has killed most of their future project improvements and expansion due to lost ridership. 

Other transit agencies around the country are experiencing similar drops, like in Atlanta or in Texas.

There was a huge ongoing renovation (Sandy damages) to the L train tunnel connecting Manhattan to Williamsburg Brooklyn. Very limited nights and weekend services, which made it very annoying at times. I live on that line. It was on schedule to be completed early, this April. I wonder if it's still on track? I can't find anything about it.
