60 years old today

Very happy that I was a near perfect age to enjoy what he did in 2 sports.

This was 35 years ago today….watched it as it was happening and it didn’t look like real speed, and then the tunnel exit.

Favorite Bo highlight? Story/legend?

First career hit…off Steve Carlton and his 321 wins

Hits a hard grounder and 2nd baseman goes two steps towards RF line and Bo beats it out by a MILE, the timing of this doesn’t calculate at all with the game of baseball. A fast guy hits this and you are thinking bang bang, just out…this isn’t remotely close

These videos suck but it’s like what he did fooled everyone….fooled one of fastest guys in the league, the camera man and even messed up the umpires.

Another highlight where he defies “timing” of the game

I’ve read he has the fastest timed run to 1B still. But it was unofficial and before they had metrics to actually time

I truly believe if he hadn’t hurt his hip he would have been the first person ever and only forever that would be in the HoF for 2 major sports.

He was that good.

Sharing the time with two he wouldn’t have reached the necessary “counting stats” but his greatness level I could see it. Especially football. In baseball he would do the craziest in air full out dives and just destroy his shoulder and stuff. Football would only get 8-9 games

He was an accomplished pitcher in HS as well. He hated pitching, but I read a quote by a MLB scout at the time saying he could have been trained as a MLB caliber pitcher.

He took third in state in the HS high jump track meet after barely learning how to high jump a few weeks before.

One of my favorite stories was from his time at Auburn football.  They played at the super dome (must have been the Sugar Bowl).  They were practicing on the field in the days leading up to the game.  The QBs were all taking turns trying to hit the scoreboard over the center of the field.  They were getting closer with each try, but none were going to do it.  Bo came over, put caked up a ball and whacked the scoreboards in the first try.  Love that one.
