Poll: Are there lies that are OK?

I thought about adding additional options regarding the severity of the untruth, but decided to keep it binary.

Example: Is it OK to say you love your children equally when deep down, you know it isn't true? I thought about it when walking the dogs. We've had six and there have been three I've loved more than the other three (I HAVE loved them all).

Are lies intended to spare feelings OK?

Does the importance of the question matter (i.e. "little white lies" vs. "real" lies)?

I did miss asking if self-defense is a valid excuse. Good point.

I’m not following with the kids. There’s some you don’t really love anymore?

I'm saying that people with multiple kids say they love them all the same. I know a whole lot of people who love all their children, but if being honest they have one or more that they love more than others.

I only have one child, and I love him very much.

The six I was referencing was that we have had six dogs. Sorry about the poor way I worded it.

Oh ok. Yeah I have no problem saying I love some of my pets more than others. My wife rescued a Jack Russell years ago and I hate it. I don’t think we knew what we were getting into with her. Weve had several cats, a couple that I really liked and one I didn’t like at all.

wife: "Do you think that girl is good looking?"

husband: "no, she has a messed up nose" (ALWAYS find something specific as to why the girl isn't good looking)

When in reality the girl was hot.

You always tell your wife what she wants to hear in those situations.

I don't think my wife has ever asked that, but I have definitely pointed out hot women before. Usually when they are wearing something ridiculous and I'll say "at least she's hot and can pull it off."

But then she gets mad at me when I tell our one dog I hate him.

to the original example in this thread, we have 3 dogs. I have 2 kids and a wife. so there are 6 living beings in my home everyday when i walk in the door after work. only 1 of them (the old, blind/deaf cancer ridden dog) gives a shit that i even exist. Once he finds me we have our daily wrestling match at the top of the stairs and my day gets better.

That dog is my favorite and i don't lie to anyone otherwise.

Yes.

My personal favorite that I use regularly....

I always lie regarding work deliverable deadlines because more often than not, shit gets delayed for a variety of reasons. X is due on Monday. Akkkcccctually, it's due Wednesday because I knew someone would fuck around and cause a 1-2 day delay.

For the constantly late significant other....also works well! Hey, we have dinner plans Friday at 7pm. Psych! It's really at 8.

I understand the kids thing for sure.  Especially in those huge families.  You can't tell me that you have 14 kids, and love them all equally.  There is a misfit in there somewhere.
