If you're going to be an atheist or agnostic at least call a spade a spade.  The Catholics/Christians have a history of being terrible people and they still have their extremely problematic flaws (i.e. priests molesting/raping boys), but it doesn't mean that Islam doesn't deserve criticism.  There is a very easy argument, that their extremism is much more prevalent and is a huge issue.  If you're going to hate, at least hate on all religions equally.  I don't think that is much to ask for.

Not excusing it - but I think there is a very real fear going on with this. If you're a public figure or work for a publication, it does add a very dramatic difference to the kind of death threats that you'll receive. I think journalists and politicians keep a vivid picture of Charlie Hebdo in their minds. If you're the average person then you get people accusing you of racism, doesn't matter that Islam isn't a race.
Another way to look at it is that for the most part, we are always hesitant to explore WHY there are extremist willing to kill numerous people and often themselves in each case. On one side you can point the finger at war, another side you can blame a bad imam, another side you can blame the way the west has flooded itself with migrants (the buzzword is refugees). Could be all three of those reasons together. But it's very taboo to discuss it.

And, so, the Osundairo brothers are suing Jussie Smollet's lawyers. Is this fiasco ever going to end?

It's such a weird hill to die on.  I know we have quite a few atheists and agnostic people on this site.  I personally know quite a few atheists and I would consider myself agnostic.   I never understood why this group of people tend to be apologists for the religion of peace.  The normal deflection will be to remind people of how terrible Christians and Catholics are.

For me, the issue is when people like Boogie use examples of Muslim extremism to attempt to show why we shouldn't let any muslims into the US or why we should discriminate against them. They would like to blame all of them for the acts of a few. I don't blame all Christians for the few nut jobs. I don't blame all black people for the acts of a few. I don't blame gun owners for the acts of a few.

Therefore, after the Passover holiday, I intend to bring to the government a resolution calling for a new community on the Golan Heights named after President Donald J. Trump.

This is a joke, right? wtf

I think Israel really appreciates Trump recognizing Jerusalem as the capital and that Israel has control of the Golan heights.

"Recognizing" feels like the most passive non-action thing you can do in politics.  It's hilarious if that's what's earning him this.

I "recognize" Jerusalem as the capital.  They going to name a street after me?

I don't get the big deal either but apparently other presidents would not do it.

Nahh.

The is president's lasting impact will be the significant number of conservative judges he has gotten seated.  It will continue to impact the country long after he is gone.

People/fans of Pittsburghanyteam that call it "Picksburgh". Drives me nuts. I swear to God, it makes me want to stab them in the neck and I'm not even a fan of any Pittsburgh team. But dammit, learn to talk!

Looking at a student magazine today that a kid had.  Talking about Islam and how their faith is increasingly facing "hostility and attacks" towards it.

I do not have a problem with it, b/c it is the truth.  What I DO have a problem with is that people (media) will NEVER admit the same thing for Christianity.  Hostility and attacks on any religion, or anyone b/c of their religion are flat out wrong.  But stop sympathizing with Islam b/c it's PC while completely ignoring the other side.

There was an episode this season on Silicon Valley that showed it perfectly.  You are ostracized if you come out as a "christian," but everyone welcomed all the PC stuff.

It's like watching a black guy get punched by a white guy, then another incident where a black guy punches a white guy.  The same exact situation will not get treated the same by the media.  Freaking hate it.

Stating Robert E. Lee was a great general.

No. No he wasn't. He was a good field general, sure, but a terrible overall theater general.

Maybe it is because I work in VA and his shit is everywhere, but it is pretty annoying.

Christianity is under attack?

No, and if what I typed interprets that way, then I apologize.  There are, however, many Christians who are ridiculed and "shamed" because of their Christian faith.  In my opinion, it doesn't compare to the ridicule that Islam receives, but that doesn't make it right.
