Considering what you do, for the amount of days that you get paid to do it (185 days), and the amount of time off + benefits that you receive... You get paid very well. Tenured teachers that bitch about their salary crack me the fuck up. The only really shitty teaching salaries are those of entry level teachers (considering loans, schooling, etc.) I'm assuming you've been at it for 20ish years? Plus coaching? You make a great amount of money, especially if you were paid your daily wage for an actual calendar year's worth of work.
In short... on behalf of the Ohio citizens, STFU
First off, tenure doesnt exist anymore.
Secondly, how would you like to be evaluated on how other people do?
Third, we have huge requirements on a yearly basis on professional development. I am sure that most college grads arent required to continually take college courses to stay employed.
fourth......what you call a salary isnt what a teacher brings home to live off of. After retirement, taxes, benefits.....no teacher brings home more than 60% of their salary. Its more like 45%
Lastly, is being an educator the most important job in our society.....yes it is. You think you would want the brightest and best. Paying them scraps doesnt do that.
Sure is the schedule nice, yes it is.
