Unplanned The Movie

I saw this over the weekend and wanted to talk a little bit about the movie. This, I am sure, will turn into a "pro life vs pro choice" debate but I don't want that. I was surprised the tone of the of the movie, specifically its tone toward women that have abortions and those that work inside of the clinics.

It is a must see for anyone pro-life, and I would recommend it for those that are pro-choice as well to truly see one person's story who has been on both sides of the debate. It is NOT what some in the media are making it out to be.

Both sides of the debate/aisle are presented in this movie. In the beginning Abby (the woman the autobiography is about) is pro-choice and works at a Planned Parenthood clinic (eventually runs the clinic). She gives all of the reasons, arguments, etc for pro-choice and women's health to anyone who will listen. The women in the clinic that work there are shown to truly be there to help women. They are not demonized a single moment in the film. The movie isn't about "bashing" women who get abortions or those that work in PP clinics. Matter of fact the main characters are the exact opposite of that "stereotype" and the movie depicts everyone who works in the clinic as someone who truly are there trying to help women.

It will "get" you if you are pro-life. For those that are Christians and watched Mel Gibson's "The Passion" I put it like this. The Passion was a movie that all Christians should watch, and almost all of them never want to watch it again (see "Jesus" go through what he did). This movie will be the exact same for those that are pro-life. You need to see it, but will never want to watch it again. What I mean is that it doesn't pull any punches about what happens in/during an abortion, and while it didn't really deserve an "R" rating it would have/should have definitely been PG-13 due to the graphic content in 2 or 3 specific scenes.

There is one scene early on where the story is discretely showing exactly how Christians shouldn't act around clinics and women going into them vs how they should (the irate protesters berating women vs the peaceful ones that are just praying and talking to the women like they are human beings).

Anyone else see it or plan on seeing it? What are your thoughts?

This movie sounds terrible and I will not be seeing it.

I'm usually skeptical when I see these movies.  Not because they might or might not make good points, but because (a) I don't normally go to a movie to see a point made, and (b) the acting itself is usually pretty suspect. After having to sit through Fireproof, War Room, and God's Not Dead, it's left a bad taste in my mouth, even acknowledging that there is the occasional good one, like I Can Only Imagine.

I've not seen The Passion of the Christ, but labeling this as being on par with that seems pretty hefty.

I may see it if I'm asked to by someone I'd rather not say 'no' to, but I probably won't initiate.

Let's see. Last night, I watched City of God and thought that movie was basically the epitome of what I look for in a movie (great direction, good story, violence). Exactly what does this movie bring to the table that would satisfy me, a person who wants to receive actual entertainment and enjoyment when participating in leisure activities such as movies?

The acting/storyline in this movie is Oscar worthy compared to God's Not Dead/Fireproof/etc.

It is not truly good/great, but it's not nearly as terrible acting as those movies, that is for sure.

I also didn't say it's as good as The Passion, because it is not. I said it will bring that same emotion as The Passion to those that are pro life.

I take it  you don't ever watch documentaries or biopics?

If I watch it, it will be unplanned.

Unfortunately, that's not difficult.  Those were such hot garbage.

I thought you meant that they were equitably impactful and needing to be seen at least once.  I knew you didn't equate them from a quality standpoint.

Okay, that was funny.

Truthfully it is close to as impactful for a pro-life Christian as The Passion was.

Well, I have to admit, after reading this, it sounds like it:

Granted, I still go to films to be entertained, and this doesn't sound entertaining, but it sounds well-done at least.

Honestly "only" 3 shown in the movie in various forms (Plan B hormonal abortion, 12 week'ish suction tube abortion, and a somewhat botched).

Only 1 time do you see an actual baby/fetus however, and it is in the "P.O.C." room. That is where PP has to re-assemble the 'parts' to verify that no parts are left inside the mother (infections, complications, etc).  You never see an aborted baby in the movie.

It's not entertaining, just like The Passion wasn't entertaining, Schindler's List wasn't entertaining, Roots wasn't entertaining, but they were all movies that you (not specific you, general you) should see...once.\

That pro-choicer's review is spot on.

I found some entertainment in Schindler's List and Roots.  As I said, I never saw The Passion.  I was moved by the others.
If you say this is moving, I'll give it a watch.

Roots won a golden globe for best tv series. Passion of the Christ was nominated for 3 Oscars. Schindler’s list WON 7 Oscars, and is considered one of the best movies of all time.

Comparing this shit movie to those three films is just dumb.

1. Hard to call a movie shit without seeing it.

2. Find where I said this movie is on par with this movies? I said the emotion is like The Passion and all those movies were heart wrenching, not really entertaining.  That was the comparison, not that the movie was as good as those

3. Stop your trolling, you have become obsessed. Anyone with a basic understanding of the English language understood that I didn’t come close to saying this movie was as good as those movies.

Ahh okay. So a show that won an award for best show of the year, and a movie that won an award for best picture of the year are not entertaining? That’s what you’re arguing?

Keep trolling, eventually you will take a stats class, but the looks of this thread you should take a reading comprehension class as well.
