Space Force. 

"I am hereby directing the Department of Defense and Pentagon to immediately begin the process necessary to establish a space force as the sixth branch of the armed forces," Trump said during a meeting of the National Space Council.

"Our destiny beyond the Earth is not only a matter of national identity but a matter of national security," Trump said.

Man, and as part of my "going through the Bond movies" thing I have going on right now, I watched Moonraker just the other night, what with Drax's giant space fortress and that gunfight with laser guns and all that shit. MAKE ALL OF THAT HAPPEN!

I do not disagree with this (yet, don't know everything), and I am all for space exploration and scientific advancement...

 

However, can you imagine what this will do to the defense budget?

Oh yeah. He does it to distract and make waves. He has mentioned this several times and each time I just laugh. 

I find it funny and will believe it when the DOD starts to issue guidance  and requests in their budget requests. 

I'm sure the Air Force is like, "oh come on!"

Hey, it worked for Reagan!

But for goodness sake, PLEASE don't spend any more on defense.  I have no problem if they figure out how to divert a 1/4 of what they currently spend to reigniting our space program.  A lot of good, valuable tech came out of NASA - a rare, positive ROI for gubmit spending.

Bill Maher and the other clowns are really pushing fear and paranoia that Trump is going to become a dictator and is going to cancel elections.  He had George Will on trying to educate him, and George Will was probably remembering why he ignored Maher's request to come on for 25 years.

So clearly we need to start teaching civics and the constitution again, and do a much better job of it.

While I think most of us here would like the government to be more fiscally responsible and sensible, I'd say that most of us are socially liberal at the same time. I think where most of us scoff is the progressive/regressive agenda concerning culture. A few die hard righties and lefties, but for the most part, most of us are middle of the road IMO
