So we all know who Tara Reade is. She used to be a Biden staffer, accused him of sexual assault, has been deemed credible by many/found to be suspicious by many people. Apparently she recently went on vacation to Russia and decided to stay there for a handful of reasons including being told by Matt Gaetz that he couldn't guarantee her safety if she came back to the US. She held a press conference where she plainly states that she has applied for Russian citizenship.

On one hand, with everything that has unfolded in just the past year, I can see where she has a fear of her personal safety when it concerns our US govt.
On the other hand, there's so many loose ends with her that I really don't know what to think at this point.

I do think that at this point she is a political figure. I also think that she's been credibly threatened, or heavily leaned on, by government entities. As such, I can see where a person might come to a point in their life where they don't want to continue the fight and go somewhere where they can live in obscurity. If that is the case, I support her.
BUT...
Going to Russia?!? No matter your stance on the proxy war against Russia (pro or con), there are better choices of countries to move in order to seek some semblance of safety and that's where my doubts creep in. It doesn't appear that she *wants* to live in obscurity, that she instead wants to continue her fight (whatever that entails), she wants to continue keeping her face in the public eye. I'm not sure that she'll be finding what she's looking for in Russia.

She also states that she wants to retain her citizenship to the US.

So, what's the general thoughts on this?

As for the actual Tara in question, probably the key part of the OP was "has been deemed credible by many/found to be suspicious by many people". As someone who (like 100% of the people who will post on this thread) has no idea as to what really happened and as someone who doesn't reallly care about the issue, it seems to me the main reason that anyone brings her up is solely due to the political side of things. Where what really happened takes a back seat to either circling the wagons to defend Biden or scoring a point against him. And I'd guess that anyone taking a strong stance in her favor is either an R or at least an anti-D and anyone taking a strong stance against her story is the opposite.

I have no real opinion. Could be sexual misconduct, they could have had an affair that didn't lead to what she thought it would, she could just be disgruntled and making up something to smear him. I don't know and barring an actual smoking gun bit of evidence, I doubt I ever will.

I will say that moving to Russia is very weird. If I felt I was in a position where I wouldn't be safe in America because of my allegations against a powerful individual, I think I could come up with a gazillion countries I'd prefer to try out than the place that's on pretty shitty terms with us and fairly recently imprisoned a low-level American Person With Name Recognition for an extended period on a minor league offense. I'd probably go all the way to "red flag" on the part where she apparently has some sort of connection with Matt Gaetz as far as all this goes, since that dude's a total clown whose entire political career can be summed up as "do whatever to get attention because all attention is good attention".

That's the reason I started the topic because the whole thing raises so many questions to me that I am a little bit dumbfounded. I can't see any logic behind her move.

If I am her, this is the perfect place. Considering the state of affairs, and the value she holds, Russia has an asset worth protecting. Call that whatever you want. Anti-American, whatever. But the question is about the safety of her life (I presume). I do not trust my well-being to our government. Never. My well-being only matters to the government as a tiny non-player pawn in their game. I/we are 100% expendable to the government... Convince me I'm wrong.

For me, anyone who defects to Russia immediately loses all credibility. I'm shallow like that.
