I said impossible. Break down 2A if necessary. I don’t give a fuck. We aren’t talking about muskets anymore.

lol, good luck.
When the 2A was written private citizens owned literal warships, btw. So the musket argument is silly.
That’s great. It’s 2022.
I didn’t say come for yurrrr guns. So relax.
Population 335,000,000

Is there any policy you would support, or is it, there are zero limitations for all firearms?

There might be some policies I hate less than others. But I also believe in a full repeal of the NFA so we're probably not going to be finding much middle ground here since you want to re-enact the AWB.

Got it, agreed.
1. Required 30 min mental health sessions starting in 5th grade. Every school has at least 1 professional talking to these kids weekly. If they miss 30 min of a class, they miss 30 min of a class. Bigger schools obviously need to have more than 1. Mental health and feeling worthy in life, etc are the main issues with troubled individuals. Starting them talking with professionals -- without the stigma of outside help, because the entire nation does it -- early on in life would hopefully help. Kids will still pick on someone and you will get made fun of, but venting every week would go a long way to coping with issues. It would also be a direct line to a professional seeing signs early and taking precautions.
Distant 2. Assault Rifle and Semi Automatic weapons ban - it wont happen overnight, but eventually over time you will severely limit the amount that are in the areas where the mass shootings seem to happen.

What about raising the age to purchase from 18 to 21, and/or requiring a high school degree.

That bans 90% of guns in circulation and every gun I own. This is why I do not believe anyone when they say things like "we don't want to ban all guns" or "we're not coming for yurr guns, relax."
* Technically I have a single shot shotgun that I'd be allowed to keep. It was my first gun (gift from my uncle when I was in 8th grade) and I never shoot it anymore.

I hate that idea far less than most.

Sorry, I misspoke. I don't mind the semi-automatic (self loading). But I want 1 bullet per trigger pull to come out. I'd also be in favor of making the magazines smaller, require more reloads.
posted by geeblockI think you should at least have to be 21 to purchase a gun.
If we do that, I think people could still join the military at 18, but they can only be used for stateside jobs until they're 21.
posted by ernest_t_bassWhere are people buying all these guns without background checks?- My first proposal to a solution is background checks and wait period for any and all firearm purchases, at any place (including gun shows)
- I'm not opposed to registering, just like we do with our cars, homes, etc.
- Strict penalties if caught breaking #1 or #2. Just like we're penalized for driving without car insurance.

I remember a bank robbery where fully automatic weapons were used (Los Angeles?), but am not aware of any mass shootings with them.

I see cost (to schools) as an issue.
#2 - One thing that is absent from your post, and this is sad in our society (but it's the sad reality)... parents. This would never happen, but imagine if we held parents accountable for the actions of their children. So much gray area, but I bet society cleans up pretty quick if that happens. Imagine if a parent were to get in trouble if their teenage kid sent (underage) nudes on snapchat. Snapchat would cease to exist!
