Propose a solution to these idiotic mass shootings, specifically schools.

If you just sit back and tear people down for their solutions, without providing one yourself, you're part of the problem.

I think you should at least have to be 21 to purchase a gun.

- My first proposal to a solution is background checks and wait period for any and all firearm purchases, at any place (including gun shows)

- I'm not opposed to registering, just like we do with our cars, homes, etc.

- Strict penalties if caught breaking #1 or #2.  Just like we're penalized for driving without car insurance.

As far as schools go, you can see my response on the Biden thread.

mandatory military service immediately following high school. required psychiatric evaluations prior to discharge. firearms can only be purchased by people with good records based on service record and psych eval (and universal background check) .

even then i'm not sure you eliminate this. the background check was done on this fool and he was good to go. so requiring background checks doesn't work.

personally, i feel like the problem is society in general and the internet specifically. we are so focused on pronouns that we don't think about out our verbs. society has us focused on who we should fuck and simultanesously mocks people who tell us ways to love someone. i was in a dark place a few years ago and i stumbled on a quote that resonated with me. "we live in a house of mirrors and think we are looking out the windows" meaning i was reading mean, hurtful, ignorant shit all day on the internet and thought the world was full of it. in reality the algorithms were feeding me what i was projecting out really warping my vision of the world. i bailed on all social media (except twitter, where i never really engage) and within months my outlook changed on just about everything. i found a job to get me out of one i hated and have been the happiest version of my adult self for 3 of these last 4 years (covid year omitted). personally i feel this is the biggest contributing factor to these massacres and the evidence, particularly with the buffalo shooter and increasingly looking like this guy in uvalde too, seems to back me up.

Reinstate assault weapons ban. Carve out exceptions for guns already purchased.

Raise age to 21 for most guns.

Toughen up existing red flag and background check laws. Properly fund existing background check agencies.

Move back waiting period to be able to purchase a weapon. No more same day.

Properly fund mental health, more to suicide prevention services.

Provide a more streamline way to look at if someone is borderline on violence and then connect those dots between law enforcement and making sure that person does not have access to a firearm.

Coordinate with local and state health services that focus on mental health and create public and private foundations to address mental health at the local level.

Require gun safety training for all new gun purchases before purchase. If you do not take it, you cannot buy it. The NRA was known for gun safety training classes. They should bring them back.

Some of these are long term, very hard solutions, but are feasible.

What punishment should I hypothetically receive for not registering my guns? Because I am absolute not doing that under any circumstances.

- locking the doors to the school and hiring better quality police officers seems like a good place to start.

It's pretty easy to print a highly functional weapon with a $100 3D printer, btw.

All the schools in Columbus City Schools have been locked with cameras for about the last 15 years maybe.  Its not foolproof but I think most schools do the same.  Not sure about the situation with this school and how he got in with so much false information out there.

It’s always frustrating when this happens, the shooter’s previous friends and acquaintances come out of the woodwork to comment on how much of a psycho he was. With Ramos, he was a dropout (or missed large parts of school and wasn’t gojng to graduate on time), was notoriously bullied and had a bad relationship with his mom to the point she kicked him out, self harmed, commented to another friend he wanted to join the marines so he could kill people…isn’t there a way to prevent someone like that from buying two rifles and and nearly 400 rounds of ammo as soon as he can (which is also a red flag in itself)

What is the punishment for not registering your car?  Or not paying property taxes?  Or building a home without proper permits, etc.?  I guess you could follow those guidelines.

Why would you do the above, but not guns?  Genuine curiousty here.

Most schools do. Like you said, misinformation abounds, but supposedly the one random door was unlocked. But, the kid was outside the school shooting things for 12 minutes prior to entering the school. You’d think these people have a lockdown protocol. As more details emerge, the first cops on the scene were useless. I also saw that there was no school police officer at the school (was initially misreported).

I don’t know any laws you could have on the books, other than confiscation, that would have stopped what happened.

Everything I’ve read and heard was that all the doors were unlocked

Marines is a good option.  I like that!  "Want to kill people?  We have a spot for you right on the front lines!"  That's very little tongue in cheek.

Because there have been cases of psycho journalists posting maps of every gun owner in various locations (NY, I think).

It's nobodies business. Not yours, not my neighbors, not the government.

If I buy a car and only use it on my property, I don't have to register it.

Agree.  If caught driving it on public roads, then there is a penalty.  I would propose the same with guns.  You get caught using it off of your property, then the same penalities would apply.

Your first sentence is absurd.  People are dum.  No different than the nut-jobs protesting outside of Supreme Court Justice's HOUSES.  Screw all that noise.  Idiots.

My first sentence is absurd in that I should be ashamed for saying it? Or it's absurd that it happened?

I’d start with making it impossible for an 18 year old Wendy’s employee to be able to purchase 2 AR-15s.

You can certainly make it harder. But you cannot make it impossible.
