Sessions' Chief of Staff, Matthew Whitaker, will fill the position until a nomination can be made.

Any thoughts on who takes his place? I, for one, am glad to see Sessions go.

I'm surprised it took this long.

My guess is Lindsay Graham replaces him. His replacement would be appointed in a heavy R state, so no big risk.

My only concern is this is the first stage in Trump shutting down the Mueller investigation before it is complete.

My only concern is whether the new AG will commence the investigation of the FBI, DoJ, and DNC relative to their conspiracy to thwart the ’16 election, and the criminal cover up that ensued.

Cool. Do that too if he wants.

Just let Mueller complete what he is doing and issue his report.

Would Nikki Haley want the job to start bankrolling her future presidential run? I kinda hope Lindsey stays in the Senate. Lindsey 2.0 post Kavanaugh is great.

Sessions is a worthless human being, so good riddance. Hopefully his replacement is better, although if it's Graham, that might not be happening. Over the last two years, he went from having self-respect to making sure both lips are on Trump's ass at all times in one of those "either someone has DIRT on him or he's realized that the best way to move up under Trump is to flatter and kiss ass constantly" ways.

Has the position been held by a non-lawyer? Can it be as a practical matter?

Also, don't let this go under the radar, but hopefully this means the rumors of Trump (and GOP) looking at marijuana reform are true.

Would be nice. It certainly wasn't going to happen on Sessions' watch.

It doesn’t take two years to find ‘the thing’ that would be the ‘biggest thing’ to ever hit our national election.  He needs to show his cards now.

Then we can start the investigation of what really occurred.

You don't know that. Why now?

Let the process play out. He has led to indictments and guilty verdicts so far, so let him do his work.

I agree, although by now it wouldn't seem to be unreasonable for him to have an estimate on how long it will go.

How many of those indictments involve Russia?

Seriously? Come on. Earlier this year they released a lengthy indictment of several Russians and their Intel agencies.

Let the man work. His record is pretty damn good so far.
