Wonder what happens to the superhuman skill of our transfers when they are beat by Creek in basketball. Funny, you aren't crying then. On the basketball court (a game that requires great skill and athleticism they are equals so to speak). Same with baseball. Mysteriously only in football would Big Red eternally own IC. I'd still love to hear you give a theory on why that is, SOS. We steal all the great athletes via recruiting from the poor "little guy". But the "little guy" can still compete with our Ohio Valley all stars in every sport but football....

When an athlete participates in high school football they are supposed to get something more than just wins and state titles out of it, and at Steubenville it seems to me that the only thing that they get out of it is to say that " I played at SHS". The fans and certain coaches could care less what happens to these athletes after Football is over, this can be seen most by what happens to the African American players who graduate from Big Red, they get used by the program and are not helped after football is over. Where are the Black coaches at Steubenville? Where are all the great Black athletes that go on to the next level? These athletes only get to go to local colleges that a certain coach has ties to and the reasons are that the coaches don't give a damn about their GPA while they're toting the rock and this is what denies them the ability to go to top notch or mid tier schools. And before anybody doubts anything that I'm stating I know this for a fact because I've had a son go through the system and he's shown and told me what take place at that school. So keep on winning state titles and going to the playoffs while you deny what the game is actually there for...to produce young men that will go out and be productive members of society. And I know that you play the game to win, but at what cost....Go ask former black athletes from Big Red what they think of the program and I'm sure that a MAJORITY of them will tell you that they got used!!!!

^^^ This is ridiculous. According to the government, Big Red is an inner-city school. Reno and his staff pull kids out of the ghetto and turn them into winners. Reno has created more men than he has football players. At some point, it is up to the young men to decide what they will do with the training Reno has given them.

Very few players have gotten into trouble after they leave Big Red, including African Americans. On the rare occasion when someone does stray, it gets a lot of publicity. But considering the hundreds and hundreds of young men who have gone through the program, I think the results are very positive.

I hope that's all you have to say about the above. What rubbish! Reno doesn't care? How about letting athletes stay at his home to escape family problems and/or outside poor influences? How about the study table to avoid players falling behind in their studies? How about the contacting of schools to help get their foot in the door? The only reason they fail ( white or black ) is called the Bell Curve. They either won't or can't do the required work when they get to the next level.
A black co-worker once told me that "you can't be used unless you want to be used". Players get used to the adulation of being a star player and when that is gone they have nothing to turn to except the hard work and sacrifice it takes to be in this program. Usually this is helpful in the way they work and conduct themselves; but often this is not enough.
How long after graduation is the coaching staff suppposed to hold their hand? How about family?
I went through 4 years of college prep classes and only had 1 black person in any of the classes. He went to Ball State and became an Electrical Engineer; no athetic scholarships, only hard work, intelligence and a good family.
Do not lay the blame on the program for certain players to fail. When they eventually find that it takes more than football to succeed, they look for excuses, and that's how posts like yours come about.

I have said that Big Red is a good team and they have an outstanding coaching staff that has alot of knowledge of the game and the system but my point was that when people talk about a real powerhouse program I think of a big program with state and national recognition over the years.Big Red is one of the top division3 teams in the state but to me they just don't rank as a national powerhouse and I see nothing wrong with that but some people have a different definition of a powerhouse program.

Example would be Mount Union college here in Ohio,Small school that wins most of their games and is a top team in their division but you would not try and compare them with Ohio State or any other big college programs.

Don't you have to be from Africa to be called an African American?? What happened to just Black American or just American??? I know ppl who have ancestors from Ireland, Germany and Italy. They are all refer themselves as Americans. Not Irish American, German American or Italian American. I just don't understand the difference.

You're definatley correct. And no other players from other schools recieve special treatment in the classroom and they all go on to careers in rocket science. You are very blind....That's all I have to say about that.

I don't see why this is even a race issue with you, since it's not like we are sending all the white players to USC, Ohio State, and Notre Dame every year. Seems to me that it is pretty even in regards to whites and blacks going on to college. After that it is up to the individual. Do you think that the school and coaching staff owes them something once they graduate??? Are they supposed to hold their hand and make sure they attend class and do their work??

Also, to be a coach, first you have to be a teacher. How many black former players have their teaching certificates? It's hard to hire someone when they are not qualified to do the job.

I don't get your comment about being "used" either. Did Wintersville "use" you, since you are not a coach there? You are putting a lot on a high school, like they are responsible for someone for their entire lives.

That is a stupid ananlogy. High school teams are put in divisions based on enrollment. Colleges have divisions based on scholarships and stadium size.

Mount Union would never be able to beat a IA college program, but smaller division high school teams beat D1 teams every week. Big Red held a D1 Regional Champion to 3 points last year, and shut out the Quad A Champion from Pennsylvania.

You're really losing any credibility that you had, which wasn't much, when you post nonsense like that.

From what I see the "coaches" do , do a lot for these kids of all races during and after school, and summer . Its not up to them to hold their hands once they are out of school and direct them for the rest of their lives. They try to get them to college and make a difference in their lives, but the kids and parents have to want the same thing. It cant be just a one way street. I'm tired of the whole conversation of white and black! Big Red and Indian creek. Its a NO WIN situation. We all have our point of view its not about race~!

A PERSON is only used, when there is not a reward at the end. This being said, I don't feel one High School Student Athlete is being used.

Here is some fuel for your fire...The seniors now at IC and Big Red played each other at Harding stadium (reserve game) two years ago and IC won... Now if they would have played this year who would have won???????

I was at the game, and I wouldn't get your hopes up. If you recall, most of the players that would have been on the Reserve team for Big Red that year played varsity and didn't play in that reserve game.

I too was there, and I have no reason to get my hopes up, I follow all teams in the valley.
If you recall IC played a freshman quarterback, and most of their freshman team.

Indian Creek would probably have won if they'd played this year. Big Red would have for sure needed to recruit in some new guys to have any chance to beat the Creek. It's probably why the game isn't happening.
