I think he is a fine running back, and I think he has the potential to be a solid, not elite, but solid rusher at the next level. I kind of hype him up as the potential to be a rich man's Leron McClain, Baltimore's rusher turned fullback from last year, but some people think he is the mack daddy of college rushers. Am I the only one who feels this has a lot to do with him being the first white rusher in some time to get this much publicity? He is gaining the same amount of YPC as Anthony Dixon, from Miss St, yet Dixon gets virtually no QB help at all, so teams are able to fill the box when he runs. I think genuinely people want him to do well because him being a white RB makes him out to be sort of the underdog. People love when Darren Sproles gets into the game, because he is a midget compared to most of the leagues players. People love it when the punter runs a fake for a first down. Gerhart is a pure powerback at the next level, IMO, and the game has diversified itself from that type of play. Some guys still bring that to the table, but they have other things to offer as well, and I don't see any other positives out of Gerhart, other than he can pound the ball.

but his stats are Heisman worthy, don't you agree?
btw, insert "QB" instead of "RB" in your post, and you could be talking about a certain quarterback from Gainesville ;)

He is a work horse. I think he will be a more productive mike Allstot in the NFL. He is 2nd in the nation in yards, and has been apart of the 2 biggest upsets in the last couple of weeks. There is no reason why he shouldn't get the attention. Stats below.

1 Ryan Mathews, RB FRES 205 1459 7.1 77 14
2 Toby Gerhart, RB STAN 233 1217 5.2 60 16
3 Bernard Pierce, RB TEM 204 1211 5.9 68 14
4 Donald Buckram, RB UTEP 184 1181 6.4 44 13
5 Mark Ingram, RB ALA 175 1148 6.6 54 8
6 Ben Tate, RB AUB 205 1142 5.6 60 8
7 Dion Lewis, RB PITT 203 1139 5.6 85 12
8 Ryan Williams, RB VT 189 1109 5.9 66 10
9 Joe Webb, QB UAB 162 1103 6.8 71 9
10 Jonathan Dwyer, RB GT 169 1093 6.5 74 9

I'm not saying he shouldn't be getting attention, I'm saying that, because he is white, people automatically are gonna root for the kid, and do crazy things like say he should be drafted early in the second round. I don't question at all that his stats are heisman worthy, but so were Ron Dayne's, another one cut RB with supreme rushing numbers in college that really didn't do much at all in the NFL. I would love to have him as a Brown, but not with a second, third or fourth round pick. He is one dimensional. He is a Jacob Hester that can run straight forward and get you a first down on third and 3 or 4. He isn't going to be breaking any long gains in the pros, he isn't going to be able to use effective cut backs to turn nothing into something in the pros. Its not that I'm not a fan of his, but I just realistically don't see him amazing anyone in the NFL. I think he could be a steady blocker, and a nice short yardage guy, so IMO, I would take him late 4th to early 5th at best.

I remember when Rush Limbaugh got in trouble for sharing his opinion on Donvovan McNabb. Lots of people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton were up in arms.

How is what he said, any different than what you just said about Toby Gerhart?

No its not a joke, and I assume since you guys look at my username, you assume I am not caucasian. Well I am. I think its insane that a guy who is putting up the same numbers as another player in a better conference, who gets NO help from the passing game at all, is getting 5th round grades as a rusher at the next level, and people think that Gerhart is a second round guy.

Player A.
204 carries
1082 yards
5.3 YPC
9 TD

Player B.
262 carries
1395 yards
5.3 YPC
19 TD

Team B also has a QB thats thrown for about 800 more yards than the QB of team A, So the runningback for team B likely has more opportunities for touchdown rushes.

Thats one site. Other sites have him projected as a 4-5 round prospect. But in retrospect, you don't hear people celebrating Dixon as though he is a great rusher. They do, however, celebrate Gerhart as if he is.

Stanford is a good team and Gerhart has shown up big time in the biggest games on their schedule which helps a lot in terms of him being recognized for what he is. Dixon is every bit as talented as Gerhart but he is buried on a bad team and in the biggest showcase games of MSU's season, Bama and Florida, he wasn't a big factor because he is literally the only player that States opposing coaches have to game plan around.

Did I say you were anything other than "caucasian"? The point was that it is funny that when you (and others) say garbage like 'oh, he's only getting attention and support because he is white' you are unwittingly saying the exact same thing that Rush Limbaugh said, yet he is considered racist.

both are talented backs imo, however your not hearing alot about dixon at the moment because his team is grabbing zero headlines right now while the cardinal are fresh of an ass whipping of USC behind toby and a very good oline. If MSU was of any significance right now nationally we would be hearing alot more about dixon regardless of what color he is!
