OHSAA will never release these numbers but Ive got the boxscores from each of the 12 games this weekend. This seems to be the lowest total attendance in the past 25 years. Including back when the games were at St. Johns Arena. The scalpers must be in distress.

The economy is tight. Discretionary income is hard to come by.

Yeah, economy is bad and there were no big names this year.

wow...that is pretty bad. I figure the only reason D1 was the highest is because of Moeller/Mentor....both have huge crowds.

Last years attendance with more high profile teams: 2009 143,659 2010 142,066 Diff.- 1,593.

DI and DIII had more attendance this year than last. DII a thousand less. DIV 3,546 less. Blame it on D IV.

Last year 3 publics in tourney and two publics battled it out in finals, Finals had 3,000 more people there.
This year 2 publics and 2 privates. 1 of each in finals. 3,000 less people.

These figures would make me question if this was the worst attendance in 25 years, but I'm not about to go back and check. LOL

There is no doubt that attendance is on the decrease. The economy and the games being on live TV are probably a couple of the bigger reasons.

There were two games, I believe, with less than 10,000. Don't remember that happening since I've been going.

Without looking at numbers, attendance has taken a dramatic decrease in the past 4 years. Increased $$ for tickets and live championship games on STO can be blamed. Maybe they should be tape delayed. Friday night DI games always drew large crowds. Food prices at the Schott aren't cheap -- $7 for one slice of Donato's pizza and $3 popcorn - ridiculous, and not in close proximity to food places between games. Maybe the Schott is too big to host the tournament and should be moved back to St. John's. I know the Dunbar semifinal was less the 10,000 and there were nearly 12,000 for the PC - Zanesville game but that was due to the huge following of the teams with many empty seats be in the 100-200 levels courtside. Another factor is the NCAA games on TV and that Ohio State was playing at 7pm Friday night. Plenty of reasons.

I use to go every year for the Final Four and State championships.

Last year I went was the year Raymar Morgan and Canton Mckinley won state.

The OHSAA releases their numbers, every year, and announces the number of tickets sold during almost every game. Maybe you were in the restroom?

It is HIGHLY unlikely that the attendance was the lowest in the past 25 years, as was pointed out by someone else.

The scalpers weren't in distress, but some didn't do as well as they had in years past....some did far better.

It seems that you have a bent toward the OHSAA/scalpers, or are severely uninformed.

Lower the prices! If you can't get a better rate from OHio State then go somewhere else.

for all 4 finals games? If so where were the seats?

Peanut Heaven, up in the 300's......corners like 318, IIRC.

I used to go every year, but haven't the last two. Didn't miss one from the mid-90s until '08. Was gonna head down this season, but decided to hold off and spend my money in Indianapolis if Duke were to make it ... That worked out well

I've got some great memories from the state tournament, though. Some of the best. It's always a great time; the ultimate basketball weekend, when you couple it with the NCAA Tournament games being played simultaneously. There's no better place to watch a television broadcast of a last second NCAA game than inside the Hunnington Level, amongst the gathered faithful of hoops fans. Always crazy and intense. Love it.

But, all in all, my interest isn't as high as it once was for some reason.

In addition, people have figured out that, in comparison to St. John's, the Schottenstein Center is a lousy place to watch a ball game. No atmosphere there. I really don't like to go anymore. Not the same as St. John Arena.

It's St. John Arena. There's no "s" on the end of that name.

"In comparison to St. John's..." In comparison to his arena... It's not his arena. It's named after him.

Why did you put one in?

I don't think the attendance will ever recover. Ticket prices are way too high for a high school basketball game and now that you can watch the Finals on tv....people will just stay at home. I always go with a large group of people, but instead of watching all the games like we used to....we only watch the games that we have an interest in(local teams, superstar players, etc)
