It really shows the ignorance of this bill and misinformation. Also where the misinformation comes from.

I actually liked that video. They didn't just show the craziest nutjobs, they showed a few, but a good majority of the people they interviewed seemed to be the same type of people that I see and hear everyday complaining about health care without a real knowledge of what the bill actually does.

This is the equivalent of when people would interview idiot liberals and ask "So you think Sarah Palin was a good choice by Obama for his Vice President?" and they get all excited "Oh yeah! She's awesome and a great pick by Obama. He knows what he's doing."

Newsflash: people are misinformed and often unprepared to be interviewed. This was little more than proof of that.

That guy was a bitch for editing that the way he did by the way. It didn't show any substance, and it's impossible to know if he interviewed anyone who answered correctly.

Ehh, if you interview anyone on the street about any in depth policy issue, you get the same responses, regardless of party. Point, when it goes to the specifics, nuts and bolts of policies, Americans do not really get it.

I'll admit, I don't get the ins and outs of health reform, nor financial reform. But, I don't go out and march for or against the thing.

I think that is sort of the point. The audio from the Howard Stern Show of Sal the Stockbroker going out on the street in Harlem and asking people about the Obama/Palin ticket was really just a bunch of random people on a crowded New York street. It wasn't a political function or a protest.

It is my personal opinion that if you are going to take the time to hit the streets, travel across the country, and publicly rail against a policy, it might be an idea to become informed about it... At least on the basics so that you can have a substantial conversation on the topic.

But, that's just me.

I would think if you are going to a rally against something you would be versed in what it is you are protesting????

That goes for any subject or political persuasion.

The question really does become "what are they doing there?" Why are they so upset about this bill if they cannot name things about it?

Like when I hear something horrible about Obama or Bush or any company of politician/bill I usually at least look into it a little bit before I let myself become so enraged that I talk about it to people. And I 'd definitely make sure I was on top of that knowledge if I was going to march to DC or anywhere to protest.

Perhaps we should add a stipulation that if you're going to protest something publicly you should be able to carry on a conversation about it. Stupid people are stupid, not just conservatives but liberals too. This just happens to be a bunch of conservatives.

No argument per se....but I think the same question can be asked... why are people blindly supporting it when they have no idea what's in it?

It does if you think the Feds can run health care as cost-effectively and efficiently as they have demonstrated with Social Security and Medicare.

I don't think any of the posters on this board fall into the category of not knowing anything about the bill. We debate the value of different parts of it and have different views philosophically of what is the "right" thing to do in regards to how much or how little the government should be involved but I think we all have at least a crayon quality sketch of what is going on.

These people however don't even have a finger painting level of understanding of what's going on. As I said though I'm sure there are people on the other side that are the same way, it's just they weren't marching and protesting in this particular case.

Disagreeing or being angry about this bill does not make you stupid, it may mean you differ in opinion from some of us but it doesn't mean it's a worse opinion. Shouting about how Obama is the devil and this bill is going to cause the apocalypse and kill your grandmother with a death panel and ration your medicine without knowing any amount of detail of what the bill actually says and stipulates does make you stupid. Disagreement and debate = good. Just yelling that the other side are baby killers trying to take your health care and when asked "why do you think that is?" having no answer whatsoever other than "that's what I heard" = Bad.

This is turning into a rant but my point is that if you're going to try and stay informed/interested in politics please don't just seek out the information that supports your views.

I have a hunch the morons in Congress who voted for this bill (after a shady series of closed-door deals were cut) have the same "crayon quality" level of understanding of it. That's the scariest part of all.
