Hey Rocket fans! What's going on with the coaching search. When UT replaced Joplin two years ago they used a search firm out of Chicago to give the Toledo AD cover in the hiring. This really worked out! What's going on this time? Sure would be nice to put some butts in the newly renovated Savage Center!!

Not sure how much legs it has, but I have heard Dane Fifes name thrown out there by 3 different people. But those 3 could have all gotten it from the same person originally.

He is currently the coach at IPFW in Fort Wayne. I believe for the last 3 years.

I haven't heard any exact names, but I have heard from people who work over there the profile of what they want there next coach to be and Dane Fife matches it. I have seen Savage Hall full this year, there have been a few good HS games there.

This is going to be a tough job, they do not have much D-1 talent on that team at all. It is going to take a few years. The new coach is not going to turn them into MAC champs next year. He will struggle to do much better than they did this year.

Couldn't have said this any better myself. Hard to win when you don't have players that belong on that level.

I agree the talent level is very low, but they will be much better next year just for the fact they don't lose anything unless players leave due to the coaching change.

I've heard tons of names but some that I think are most likely are Waters from Cleveland St, Hunter at IUPUI, Boals at OSU. I really think they will go for someone with D1 head coaching experience this time. That could open the door for guys like Lickliter and Penders.

Toledo will have to take their time getting this situation rectified.

Here are the names/schools I'm hearing - Fife - Cleveland State - Boles (OSU) - Akron (several names)... Reportedly UT is offering a $500,000 k package, plus, plus.....I agree that they will want to have a Coach with HC experience...

Hes done a pretty good job at IPFW. He took over for a program that was only 5 years old and hadnt had any success. They joined the Summit League 3 years ago and he has been 9-9, 8-10, and 9-9 in the league finishing 5th each year. He took them to their first ever winning season this year.

I think he needs more experience, but if he is going to make the jump, Toledo would be the perfect fit for him.

Toledo has the best facilities in the MAC with the new savage and new indoor practice complex. It should be one of the better jobs open this season outside the BCS conferences.

Don, I have also heard dambrot(sp?) from akron but only once so im not sure if there is any truth to that. wonder if he would leave for toledo?

Dave - everyone has his price - money also moves mountains....KD would be a good hire - proven coach and a good recruiter....time will soon tell.

Fife's done a good job at IPFW. Not only was the program very young when he took over, but he was only 25 or 26 himself. They were both kind of learning on the fly.

I think he's been there 5 years now. He would be a solid hire.

Looks like Toledo might have a coach today or tomorrow.

Can't say I'm jumping up and down, but as I expected they went with someone who has D1 head coaching experience. I do really like that he is still so young with so much experience. It doesn't appear he's ever recruited the midwest. You have to like this quote though:

"Coach Kowalczyk worked with me every day," said Marquette All-American and 2006 NBA Finals MVP Dwyane Wade. "I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for him."
