Vacating wins is a joke. What does it accomplish?

If they can prove the coach was an accomplice, then the coach should be banned from coaching college basketball. As for the player, it isn't a criminal offense, there isn't much that can be done to him.

Good job NCAA, way to really punish them for your own mistake. Makes a lot of sense to me. The only thing that makes more sense is that people want to blame it on Calipari.

Calipari puts two programs on probation.
- punishment: gets one of most prestigious coaching jobs in sports, immediately becomes the highest paid coach in college basketball.

Dez Bryant may or may not have paid for his cheeseburger at lunch
- punishment: suspended for remainder of senior season


The NCAA exists to make money for everyone involved except the people that actually generate the revenue, the athletes. It's been that way for years and it's unfortunate.

The best part of this season will be in 5 years when UK has to vacate all these wins and lose their more than likely Final Four appearance.

Cal is the freaking scum of the Earth. I wish him nothing but failure. He leaves every school he coaches at with a pile of NCAA violations and yet people are dumb enough to hire him. Part of me hope he gets UK a 10 year post-season ban. But I don't really have a problem with UK, just Cal. They are guilty by association.

The NCAA clears Rose to play and Calipari offers him a scholarship like every other school in the country that he expressed interest in. Then after the season the NCAA finds out that they made a mistake and they punish the University whom they said Rose was okay to play at.

And then all of a sudden it's Calipari's fault to all the morons on here, yet he wasn't accused of any wrongdoing. Great logic on here!

2. AFTER COMMITTING TO MEMPHIS....Rose travels to Detroit to take the ACT test. Why would a Chicago kid go all the way to Detroit to take an ACT??

So, he signs up to take it in Detroit....and someone else takes the exam for him using a fake ID.
Its not difficult to do. I personally know of another athlete...who did the samething. ACT hit the red flag when his score almost doubled....and tossed that score, making him inelgible prior to the season. Now this kid wasn't very smart by "doubling" his score, so it was caught quickly. I am assuming the score discrpency was not as much with Rose...thus it was flagged until someone clued in the NCAA....then the investigation found out what happened.
Now, if you want to believe Cal wasn't involved...so be it. Maybe he didn't have direct knowledge. That doesn't make him innocent by any means. Wes and he are in it together...its not difficult for him to tell Wes to get it done, just don't tell me how. Or Wes just telling Cal he'll take care of it, don't worry about it. Bottom line, Cal is associated with Wes, the guy feeding him recruits. Ever hear guilty by association? Think what you choose...Cal is a cheating SOB in my book. He may not have to do that at a place like UK ...but nothing would surprise me.

I'll admit, I watched Degrassi. Laugh all you want, but it's still hilarious to see him cashing in as a rapper and being a huge UK fan. Honestly, Cal has a lot more people who can influence his recruiting than people think. He's tight with people in professional sports, the music industry, Hollywood, etc...the celebrities that have been around the UK program this year have been pretty infamous.

Why doesn't the NCAA hire you then, since their investigators obviously couldn't come up with the same logic and penalize Calipari.

That's what you have failed to explain. The NCAA has attorneys and investigators that interviewed Calipari and people directly involved, and in their investigation they didn't imply Calipari in any way. But here you are, a guy on a message board who apparently knows more than the people who actually investigated the situation.

You always criticize people who question coaches and say that they know more than anyone here on a message board. The same applies here, you can't imply Calipari when the NCAA's investigators, the professionals, couldn't find him at fault.

Did you seriously read what I put? I said it would be easy for Cal to stay clear of any wrong doing. That doesn't mean he wasn't indirectly involved. I think Cal is smart enough to know how to stay out of things. When you have someone as your "runner", as he does...its not difficult to stay out of the wrongdoings that are going on behind the scene.

That he specifcally chose a city where his buddy lived? Maybe he had something going on that weekend? Maybe it's the place that it was offered during one of the weekends he was able to take the test. There are plenty of reasonable reasons why he would have went elsewhere.

I just cannot understand how the NCAA cannot take responsibility for their own screw up. They clear a kid to play, kid plays, school does well, then NCAA says sorry we messed up, you have to forfeit everything.

from the NCAA investigation that neither UMass nor Calipari had any knowledge of the situation. Camby was apparently very careful to conceal his Golden Geese from the public, at least careful enough not to raise any red flags with the coaching staff or university.

LOL...sorry, but all of those answers lead to only one conclusion. Seriously, all of those things "just happen" to fall into place by chance? No way, no how.
I never said I was smarter then NCAA...but the NCAA NEVER and will NEVER give details out about the situation. Yes..they cleared Cal. So what..doesn't mean anything to me.
As for Camby....maybe Cal was'nt directly involved.....but he obviously turned a BLIND EYE to the entire situation. If he can't keep track of his own players, keep them under wraps, keep them away from all he slime...then he is as guilty as anyone and NOT doing his job as the head coach. This isn't football where you have 100+ players to keep out of trouble.
Again, Cal has the system figured out, and is using it. I am NO fan of the NCAA by any means. But I am also no fan of cheating coaches or coaches who choose to turn a blind eye to the obvious. Ever see Blue Chips? Obviously that was pretty exaggerated movie...but the basis was there. Keep coach out of it...he turns a blind eye.

Won't be surprised if Kentucky is put on probation within the next five years. Calipari will have packed his bags and moved on by then.

If Calipari is a cheat, it got him where he is now. And where he is now is at UK, a school that recruits itself. He won't necessarily have to do anything illegal to get the 5 stars.
