Headed to San Antonio next week for the first time; any suggestions on places to go, things to see, places to eat? I know the Alamo and the Riverwalk are on the list, any other ideas?

I went to San Antonio the last time the Bucks were in the Alamo Bowl. We spent most of our time along the river walk and we stayed in the Menger Hotel. The Menger is famous for it's Mango ice cream. (Somewhere I remember reading about all the famous people that had stopped in to have it, but i can't find it now.)
In three days we had steak three times and ice cream four times.
We ate in the revolving Landry's in the Tower of America's, which was pretty good. There are a bunch of good restaurants on the River walk. There was a little tiny restaurant that was kind of a hole in the wall. I can't remember the name but it was really crowded and they had live music with the musicians almost sitting on your lap. It didn't look like much from the outside, but the food was great and the atmosphere was pretty unique. I wish I could think of the name.
We also did one of the boat tours and I thought that was fun.

Make sure you check out the basement when you go the Alamo.

San Antonio is awesome!! I've been there twice.
There is a great place to eat in Southern San Antonio. I'll post details later.
How are you getting around the city? They have a great tourist public transportation system. Very inexpensive and if you know what you are doing easy to use.

Getting around in my g/f's parent's truck, most likely. We're flying down there to meet them and camping outside the city

You may want to still use the public transit. It is really easy to get around using that.
I was there during the annual Fiesta, so, many of things that I did were special events that revolved around the festival.
If you like history, go to the San Fernando Cathedral. Saw the Riverwalk, the Alamo, toured some historic victorian homes.
I don't recommend eating at the Chili's in the mall downtown.
We ate at an Irish Pub along the Riverwalk called Waxy O'Connors. Good food and live entertainment.
A good place for breakfast is Guenther Mill Restaurant.
Have fun! Hope you have great weather for walking around downtown.

Word. I enjoyed the trip very much, San Antonio was much different than I expected. Not sure I could live there, but definitely a nice place to visit.
