Guess you'll just have to stink at work Detroiters!!Officials plan to place warning placards in three city buildings. The signs will warn workers to avoid "wearing scented products, including ... colognes, aftershave lotions, perfumes, deodorants, body/face lotions ... (and) the use of scented candles, perfume samples from magazines, spray or solid air fresheners."

I would have never understood this until I met my wife. She has really bad fragrance allergies. If she is around someone with strong perfume, or scented candles, or anything else like that she gets dibillitating migraines. There have been times when she hasn't been able to get out of bed for 2 days after being around a particularly strong fragrance for any length of time. I can't tell you how many times we have had to change seats at a movie theater because someone sat close to us that had strong perfume.Fab1b wrote: http://www.news4jax.com/health/22839686/detail.htmlGuess you'll just have to stink at work Detroiters!!Officials plan to place warning placards in three city buildings. I don't know how many people this affects, but I do have a lady who works for me that has the same issues. We had make her office mates stop using scented candles.

I wonder how soon there will be a lawsuit because someone can't work from the B.O. smell of their coworkers?

Either way...... It sounds like a hostile work environment.

Only thing that bothers me is perfume. I hate it when someone wears strong cologne or perfume. And, I don't care how hot a nurse might be, NO patient wants to smell that strong shit!

I sing with Seattle Men's Chorus, the largest male choir in the world at 350 singing members. We have very strict rules about not wearing cologne or after-shave lotion. Some people truly are allergic. I have a lot of allergies so I understand the problem.

They can obviously still use deodorant. I don't have a problem w/ it.

I'm bothered by people smelling really bad. Are they going to put up signs to cater to me?
I don't tell Reese's to stop making peanut butter cups because I'm allergic to peanuts. (I'm not, an example).

It says deodorant in the article, though I am sure it means unscented but whats the point then?se-alum wrote: They can obviously still use deodorant. I don't have a problem w/ it.

But if it is unscented and one perspires heavy how would that combat odor?? I suffer from hyperhydrosis (sp?) excessive perspiration in the underarms and I use certain dry to stop the sweating but want to of course use scented deodorant to help that issue.

People can still take showers and wear deodorant. Colognes/perfumes do nothing but coverup body odor, they don't eliminate it.

By why can't I, within reason, where cologne to work in Detroit?dwccrew wrote: People can still take showers and wear deodorant. Colognes/perfumes do nothing but coverup body odor, they don't eliminate it.
The dude with the allergies is the one with the problem.

Trust me, I understand what you're saying. The company I work for is always implementing silly rules when somone does a bonehead thing or makes a bonehead claim.I Wear Pants wrote:By why can't I, within reason, where cologne to work in Detroit?dwccrew wrote: People can still take showers and wear deodorant. antiperspirant=stops sweat
deodorant=stops odor (masks stench)
most if not all of what we call "deodorant" is a hybrid of the two

I am allergic to many scents in candles!!! It's really weird. I will sneeze uncontrollably until I get away from or out of the room where on is burning.
regarding antiperspirants....I don't like them. I don't like them. I don't like the "hybrid"s. I only use deodorants.

On the list of people who need punched in the throat, anyone wearing obscene amounts of cologne/perfume are around #4.
The problem is that it only takes a couple of inconsiderate bastards to ruin it for everyone. I think I have worn cologne or aftershave four or five times in the last seven years, mostly because I can't stand someone swimming in the stuff and I don't know exactly at what point I'm having the same effect.

I understand this since I have really bad fragrance allergies. It kills me to be next to someone with to much perfume or cologne. Especially Axe. That stuff kills me. The guy next to me at work used to openly fart all day long. (I'm not even joking, just rip the worlds greatest farts all day at work) since they finally said something to him (after 20 years of it) he decided to spray himself with Axe (rather than just shower more and stop farting) Anyway as gross as the farting is the cologne is worse.
