I've started up some really small ad campaigns on facebook and google just to see what kind of hits I get. Unfortunately, it's pretty expensive to advertise through them so I am not sure how much help that will be in the long run until I can generate more ad revenue and invest more back into advertising the site.
Anyone got any ideas? Obviously word-of-mouth is going to be a big part of getting people here. I was thinking of running a contest that paid out with an Amazon gift card or something for the person who refers the most active members over a certain stretch of time. That could help with word-of-mouth expansion but there have to be other ways of spreading the word.

I wish we had some type of hand outs for people. I would gladly pass out shit at the state tourney next weekend.

I'll throw something together that you can print out.wes_mantooth wrote: I wish we had some type of hand outs for people. I would gladly pass out shit at the state tourney next weekend.
How much are copies at Kinkos?
BTW, cruiser_96 just sent me a PM and wants to put OhioChatter.com on tournament brackets and banners at the upcoming open wrestling tournament at Groveport in April.
If we could get more tournaments and events to do something like that it would help get the word out real quick.

When do you want something by in order to get copies in time?

Sporting events are obviously huge... whether it be fliers or word of mouth.
If we have anyone with radio connections of any kind... maybe try to get people to plug the show when they call in to discuss something sports related on talk shows.

Actually, I would say that as long as I have it to her by next Monday, we will be fine.

I think this is still geared more towards general chat. To be honest, there just isn't enough traffic in the high school sports forums to even have them. We need to get some high school fans in here for sure.

Not necessarily, but it is a way to get more people here.LJ wrote: So are you going the high school sports route Justin?
Serious Business is going to stay the main draw but I don't think bringing more of the HS folks in will be a bad thing.

I think the real test won't come until football season starts..then we will know how many high school fans are here. I mean..is there really any other high school sport besides football? No..I didn't think so.wes_mantooth wrote: I think this is still geared more towards general chat. To be honest, there just isn't enough traffic in the high school sports forums to even have them. I know nothing about setting up these sites, but how many people can your server handle? At some point, would we have to go to vbulletin? I am a retard when it comes to this stuff.

I can continue upgrade my server in the matter of seconds so that isn't a real issue. Curly J dropped me a $200 check in the mail as a donation to the site that I am earmarking for a copy of vBulletin (runs $195). It will probably be a little while before that goes live as I want to try and integrate vBulletin with Drupal (the software that is the reason for my trip to San Francisco) to make the site a little more engaging. Mostly, it'll will make it really, really, really easy to integrate sports scoreboards and the like with the site.

I would love to have some shot glasses designed and sold with a Ohio Chatter logo on it. For 3 or 4 bucks a pop....all the college kids would have bought them up..lol

I've got a logo worked out, I am waiting for a guy at work to put it together for me.
It'll essentially be a speech bubble in the shape of ohio with OhioChatter inside.

Is it too late to get you something to print out?
I've got a makeshift logo that I can throw on a flyer, not sure what kind of text to put on there to drum up interest. I could definitely come up with something ridiculous to generate interest in serious business but I don't really visit the high school boards other than wrestling.
