Syracuse just lost to Georgetown. Duke's guaranteed a 1 seed of they win the ACC tourney. Kentucky and Kansas are locks. So I ask:

If OSU/Purdue or West Virginia win their respectful tournaments, how do the one seeds break down? Are these the only teams in contention for the top spots?

I think the Big East will have one #1 seed no matter what. They've been the best conference all year and you can't penalize them because their top team didn't win their conference tournament and got knocked out in the QFs against a top-25 team.

If WVU wins the tournament, they might supplant Syracuse with Duke or the OSU/Purdue combo potentially getting the final #1. Or, if, say Maryland and MSU win the ACC and Big 10 tournament, both WVU and Syracuse could get #1 seeds.

I'd say that the only way I see Syracuse getting knocked from a #1 would be if WVU, Duke AND either OSU or Purdue ALL win their conference tournaments. That could make their quarterfinal exit stand out from the pack.

Well your hypothetical was answered initally when you said Duke wins the ACC.

They are your 4th #1. If anyone of OSU, WVU, or Purdue knocks Syracuse down I will lose faith in what a regular season means. Syracuse, Kentucky, and Kansas are locks...no matter what happened in the tourneys.

Thank-you. I can understand people being concerned with 2 loses to end the year, but they have a #1 seed for sure. If not, its a complete joke.

QUESTION: I didn't see the game, as I'm in the office (obviously really earning that paycheck!), but on the Big East thread, they're talking about the health of Arinze. What if that is still up in the air or it's disclosed he is legit hurt by Sunday? That, combined with the two losses, could put them in the Kenyon Martin/UC category from years ago.

That puts a different spin on things. BUT, Martin was the best player in the country. Arinze while vital to Suracuse, is, imo, their 4th best player (maybe 3rd). Not sure how well it would go over as a reason to not give them a #1 seed unless you start to look at these things every year for every team. Lots of teams have players out, but because they arent stars they dont get mentioned.

When it is an AA like Martin it obviously is a bigger deal...but I dont see Arinze anywhere close to that level.

Cuse still a #1 seed imo. They didn't need the Big East tournament to bolster their resume, losses like those will happen.

Teams like Purdue, OSU, WVU, Duke need their conf. tournament to either get a #1 or stay at #2.

Obviously, the injury is more significant than the loss.

The Big East will get a #1 seed. If it's not West Virginia winning the conference tournament, their #1 seed will be Syracuse. The only way Syracuse gets pushed out is if Duke and West Virginia/Ohio State wins out. Then Cuse MIGHT be bumped out, but still unlikely.
