..During his first week of practice as an Ohio State freshman, David Lighty, a 6-foot-5 swingman from Cleveland, was so dominant in a full-court, zig-zag defensive drill that he nearly brought the exercise to a halt. "He was turning the guy over and over. The line of guys going next was all backed up," Ohio State coach Thad Matta recalls. Though it was early in Lighty's college career, Matta sensed the kid could be something special. "I told him right there, 'I've never seen anything like that. If you play your cards right, you could be the best defender who ever played at Ohio State.' " Matta says......

Congrats to David Lighty. Truely an unselfish team player that will do whatever it takes to make his team better.

Nice to see him get some recognition. Although I like Kramer from Purdue, Lighty got screwed for Big 10 DPOY. But I'm sure he's not too worried about it.

Lighty is going to be a huge factor in the Buckeyes runs.

He can shut down the teams best scorer and then provide some much needed offense at times.

To beat anyone else to the punch:

"OMG!!! He's OVERRATED and not as good at anything as you think he is!!!!!"

There, with that out of the way...congrats to Lighty. I think the most impressive performance as a glue guy I saw from him this year was in their win over Purdue. Hummel was unstoppable in the first half. Matta put Lighty on him in man-to-man and Hummel became the invisible man in the second half as Ohio State came back to win. He's the perfect complementary player in that he has the ability to score, but even if isn't hitting shots, he will still be making an impact in other phases of the game...oftentimes a huge impact.
