If you can win games or be a productive member of the team then you're sexuality shouldn't matter.

Could you imagine if a coach said pubicly he wouldn't embrace a gay athlete on the team?? The press would have a field day with that!!

The coach isn't going to care, it's going to be the people on his team and the people he is playing against that will have a problem with it.

You are both correct. Tressel said what he had to, whether he believed it or not. I think he was being honest. The bigger question would still be, how would kids 18-22 handle having an opnly gay teammate?

Which, IMO of course, is a damn shame.

Hell, I'd put Jeffery Dahmer on the field if he'd score touchdowns every game.

Well, a rehabbed juvenile murderer getting a 2nd chance to go to college and play football would get more respect from teammates than an openly gay football player. IMO, very sad but true.

They did. Renee Portland, former Women's Basketball Coach at Penn State said she had a no lesbians policy. This along with poor performance cost her her job

I agree any coach would say that if backed into a corner, but JT granted the interview request without any pressure or obligation to do so.

I have to think an openly gay football player would be alienated by at least a few of his teamates, although probably not to his face. I could actually see the player getting abused by others teams fans so bad that the team he was on would rally around him.
