What a great actor.

AMC has the Forrest Gump marathon going strong, and A&E has "The Green Mile" playing right now.

Favorite Hanks movies or scenes?

Forrest Gump
The Green Mile
Cast Away
The Burbs

How could you make a Tom Hanks thread, and not include Saving Private Ryan...you're slipping blue!

I liked Castaway better than most people, and I thought he was amazing in that movie.

Apollo 13 is another one of my favorites...

1. Saving Private Ryan
2. Catch Me If You Can
3. Toy Story (does this count?)
4. Apollo 13

Im not sure I really like Hanks as an actor all that much when he doesnt have support, but I love him when he does. Movies when he has to carry it a little more (Terminal, Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons, Cast Away, etc) I find terrible. While the above list I love. Those movies had great actors alongside him though.

Didn't he win an Academy Award for his role in "Philadelphia?"

But to answer the question, Forrest Gump is my favorite Tom Hanks movie, although I have seen it like 20 times now.

I enjoyed Tom Hanks before he blew up as a dramatic actor. The movie Big is one of favorite of all time. A couple of old comedies he made early in his career include Bachelor Party and Dragnet. Granted, they aren't masterpieces and they never won an Academy Award, but they were very funny movies IMO.

My favorite serious Tom Hanks movie is Castaway.

hard movie to watch...but Philadelphia is an acting tour-de-force.
having said that...Castaway, Forrest Gump, and Apollo 13 were the flicks that punched the Hanks card in the acting HOF.
