Jared Sullinger of Northland High School, McDonald's All-American did not make 1st Team All Columbus City League! Link will be posted soon! What a disgrace! The other city league coaches did not want Jared, J.D. Weatherspoon, and Trey Burke on the team because it's not all about Northland. Cannot believe it!

Usually the Head Coach has one player he gets to garauntee makes 1st team...you are suppose to use this pick on the no-brainer guy...however, some coaches use it on the guy they really want to make it and expect the others to vote in their best guy.....so, the other coaches dont vote the way you would want them to cuz you were being tricky

its all politics

i know this is different, but same thing happens to UA in lacrosse every year...so much talent, we could have 5-6 1st team all staters, but like you said, its not all about UA, and they want to spread the wealth...its a shame, but its reality

maybe satch wanted it that way.....certainly the number two player in the country doesnt need a 1st team city league award. im not saying thats the case but it wouldnt surprise me, thats more likely than him not actually getting voted onto the team

Apparently Coach Sullinger pulled Sullinger and Weatherspoon off the ballot when he became upset that Trey Burke was not voted 1st team all-City. At least that's what I'm hearing. I don't really think a coach should be able to unilaterally decide such a thing. Having said that, Burke is of course deserving of 1st team all-City.

Sully will have to settle for All-Ohio, Mr. Basketball & a McDonalds All-American.

I get the politics of it all, and he should be on the city team...but it's not like that's "big prize" that he'll miss out on.

As much as this sucks, It will only be more motivation for Northland to eat up their opponents throughout the playoffs.

So was Coach Sullinger wrong for pulling two of his players off the all-City team?

A lot of the talk on here seems to make it like the other coaches did not pick Jared to be 1st team. That is totally false. I know better and so should you.

I'm with HiddenGems here. Do you really think if he would have been on the ballot the other coaches wouldn't have voted him in? No he doesn't need it, but I don't think that should be the focus. What's the deal with Satch? Seriously? It's not called the All Northland Team. Maybe some of those coaches think "heck if so and so had JD and Jared they'd be putting up those numbers too" Or "this kid is doing this without D1 super talent around him"... Maybe Jared should thank his daddy for throwing a tantrum and robbing his own kid.

Does ANYONE actually believe that Northland did not deserve a minimum of three players on 1st team all-City? That being said, I totally disagree with Satch's move here. Be upset with whatever, but not a reason to further create havoc in this situation.

I remember the last time Satch tried to make a "statement" (Sitting Jared in that tournament game that they lost). So Satch takes everybody's best player from the city, and then throws a fit at the all-league voting. Pretty classy. There were really some guys in the city that had nice years. I'm not saying that Burke is not deserving, because he is, but the kid is a Junior and will probably be MVP of the City next year. Everybody knows Trey Burke is an outstanding talent, so why not get him on the 2nd team and be happy with two First Teamers. Satch tries to make these points that are so ridiculous. As if everybody should just kiss his feet and give him whatever he wants for taking all their players and assembling a City all-star team. Pure greed is what it is.

I will say that Satch has a very valid point though! I think it was very disrespectful that Burke was not on the 1st team. no its not about Northland, but they do have the best 3 players and should be given the props it deserves! I would have debated it passionately myself, but wouldn't have puled the players if that is truly what happened.

I feel if you are a coach in the City lg you have to realize that the open policy is going to create this type of situation. I sincerely hate the policy but it is the rules as of now. It's the reason I do not go too many city league games. You can almost always predict who is going to win each game. Some players/schools do not have a single chance when the season starts and live down the street from a kid who is at a powerhouse! lol

No doubt Burke deserved 1st team, but it's a coaches vote and limited spots, maybe they figured he could have it next year. I will say there's no shame in being on the second team with the talent in that league... I also agree that the open enrollment within the district is a joke, this COULD be a very competitive league but half the teams don't have a chance.
