I want to slightly modify the text of the current rules (just #1 and #3) to make what is allowed and not allowed a little more clear.
1. No threats or personal attacks, please keep it civilized.
2. Do not reveal someone's identity.
3. Keep it safe for work. That means no nudity, no swearing in thread titles and limiting the swearing as much as possible in posts. Profanity isn't banned but keep it under control.
I want to edit #3 to include not using derogatory words like faggot, fag or any sort of racial slur. Any wordsmith's want to take a shot at that one? I also want to make them less wordy so it might need broken up into 2 rules. One for nudity, one for language.

I would just make it....
4. Absolutely no use of derogatory racial or homosexual references. If you are unsure about a word....DON'T USE IT!

I also think you should just get rid of the 'limit swearing'. Seems like a lot of people gripe about that b/c we don't keep some posters 'under control' as far as the cursing goes.

I would also add ethnic to racial and homosexual, just to cover those people who want to argue denotation. Or extend it to cover the 7 federally protected classes (race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability, and familial status for those wondering)wes_mantooth wrote: I would just make it....

to really fuck with people
I'd think we'd want something in there to the effect that we reserve the right to determine if something is derogatory or inflammatory and to remove it if it is deemed such, but we will let you know who did it and why it was done.

I don't know Justin, it comes down to being subjective in the end. What one may think is bad another may not, etc....The problem is it will be difficult to be consistent and we know that if we are not consistent will cause more harm than good as far as headaches go. I do agree, racial and sexual slang needs to be omitted!

Justin can you explain how you want me to mod the SB forum? I know I've been really relaxed in there but you're right, lately it's getting ridiculous and it's hurting the quality of the forum.

2. Do not reveal someone's identity.
3. Keep it safe for work. That means no nudity, no swearing in thread titles and no gore.
4. Derogatory slurs are explicitly prohibited. If you have a question, PM a mod (on this we need to come up with a list of banned words that can get you warned)

I am glad to see that our "fellowship" problem has really died down though. Unfortunately I had really expected some nasty comments on the thread about the missing girl but luckily everyone who posted was respectful. I think maybe we should have the basic rules posted on the forum, but maybe have a FAQ that outlines some other things like bad fellowship is against the rules (I posted the missing person thread on another forum and someone posted, "5'4 250, how could you lose that HAHA" stuff like that is what I mean by bad fellowship.)

This is a very good list. As was mentioned earlier, I think it's best to not have the vague "you can swear, but keep it under control" line due to how vague it is. Some people look at essentially any profanity as too much...while others could go on an extended Mike Clark "fuck you you fucking cuntfunk" rampage and not see anything wrong with it.LJ wrote: 1. Oh...as a sidenote, on some really stupid thread that Coyotes brings back every 29 days, after doing that for this month, September made some sort of personal attack, which I deleted out of his post as according to guidelines. Today, the ever-so-lovable Mtrulz posted on that thread with a "stop altering posts, HATERIC" line (stemming from some....er....difficulties I had a number of days back where I had a good buzz, decided his juvenile ways were harshing my vibes and went on Operation: Induce"teen"suicide V.2).
While I'm just going to ignore his mindless little post, it does bring up a question. Since he's the type of person I anticipate getting disciplined A LOT, due to his love of comebacks like "shut up fag" and the like, BUT has at least three of us on his ignore list so we can't PM him...is there any real protocol. Especially considering that if I do edit one of his posts and he starts complaining about it, I'll be begging to give him a suspension for back-talking.
Oh...I did notice a few days ago that the rules on the top of the HS football forum aren't posted on all the HS forums (at least not the GBB one). It might be nice if they were posted on all forums they're supposed to be enforced.

So does any name calling fall under the personal attack rule? I think that is a bit unreasonable... I think people should be able to call a spade a spade when people are obviously being ridiculous. I would consider personal attacks more along the lines of when a person goes out of there way to constantly berate someone and makes a habit out of doing so.
I don't know, I am a bit weary of the new stricter rules and what it could eventually morph into.

Unwarranted personal attacks, i.e. a guy respectfully posts his opinion and someone jumps on him and say something like "you're one dumb motherfucker." I don't know, I think it's pretty obvious what warrants an attack. If you aren't sure, err on the side of caution and just leave it and send me a PM.
I don't want you guys to start over moderating or anything.

You mean like where I said my gf couldn't find any data to substantiate a claim and Society called her a bitch? I think that is a pretty good example.justincredible wrote:No, not any name calling.Fly4Fun wrote: So does any name calling fall under the personal attack rule? I think that is a bit unreasonable... First of all, I like the revised rules. Secondly, LJ.....
...That has to be one of the funniest things I have read in a LONG time! I tend to be somewhat PC, but even I was laughing out loud at some of them!

Does anyone watch the Sports forums? I don't venture over there a whole helluva lot..but man..what happened to the 'no personal attacks'? Does it not apply for the Pro & College forums? You're an asshole this...your an ignorant fuck that...a little out of hand. Think we might want to get that under wraps a bit too. But maybe that's just me?

I am hardly ever in the Pro/College Forums. I stick to Serious Business, Wrestling, and Mod. Usually too much BS in the Pro/College forums to weed through!

Let 'em fight over there. Until people start complaining about it or a post is reported or something don't worry about it.

I think we need a minimum amount of posts to be able to post in the buy/sell forum.

What if one of the people who is getting really pissed about things on, say, the Pro Sports forum is me? As a Pittsburgh fan, it's getting really old for me to have what seems to be every recent thread turn into MORONFEST (Strapping Young Lad vs. Rock Knutne and/or Al Capone). They basically turn everything into a "fuck you; no, fuck you; no, fuck you; no, fuck you; no, fuck you; no, fuck you; no, fuck you; no, fuck you; no, fuck you; no, fuck you; no, fuck you; no, fuck you; no, fuck you; no, fuck you; no, fuck you; no, fuck you; no, fuck you; no, fuck you; no, fuck you; no, fuck you; no, fuck you" rampage...and seemingly never get tired of it.justincredible wrote: Let 'em fight over there. yeah, it sucks not being able to talk about my favorite NFL team on here because of those idiots, but whatever.
