Yes!!!! I loved the parachute. I remember how crazy it felt to run underneath it. I haven't thought about that in 20+ years.

Throw some plastics balls on top and pop them to the ceilings.

And they were always rainbow colored. I guess one company makes (made?) them and decided it's rainbow or nothing.

I seem to remember being a little afraid of the parachute....think I had some kind of anxiety that it would carry me up and out of the gym.
Weird right....?

^^don't worry...we had teh ghey 'chutes as well...
We had the rope too. No way that'd fly in gym glass now. All it takes is for one kid to fall from that rope and then the lawsuits start pouring in.

Yeah the rope was high as shit, obviously, all the way to the rafters. But we climbed right to the top and no one ever said a word.
It's crazy how all of a sudden that became too dangerous.

I believe that you no longer have to take PE in Ohio if you are in an organized sport, Marching band or ROTC

That's dumb.Devils Advocate wrote: I believe that you no longer have to take PE in Ohio if you are in an organized sport, Marching band or ROTC![]()
I remember in high school our D-Coord was the male PE teacher and he always made the football players do the activities we didn't want to do when we had the choice. I think I had to do gymnastics and aerobics. Nothing like watching your 310 lb NT trying to do a gymnastics routine and he just does somersaults diagonally across the mats for 5 minutes

They implemented this a few years after I graduated. Although at my school I think you only had to take one semester of PE rather than two if you did an organized sport.Devils Advocate wrote: I believe that you no longer have to take PE in Ohio if you are in an organized sport, Marching band or ROTC![]()

That's gotta be relatively recent if that's the case. I can understand not having to take it if you're in ROTC, but I certainly had to take it when I was in band. The difference was that I could take it over the summer in my first two years of high school. IIRC, you only needed two semester's worth.Devils Advocate wrote: I believe that you no longer have to take PE in Ohio if you are in an organized sport, Marching band or ROTC![]()

Playground slides used to be 15-20' off the ground and slick as hell. You could really gather some steam.
Oh, and Indian Pins = GOAT gym class game.
I think we square danced for a time too...that was not so much fun.

When you are likely lifting weights/running before school and having organzied practice/conditioning after school I think PE is pretty useless. All the athletes when I was in high school did nothing in PE unless dodgeball was on the agenda.Devils Advocate wrote: I believe that you no longer have to take PE in Ohio if you are in an organized sport, Marching band or ROTC![]()

The chute was awesome until one time when I went running under it and ran right into someone else.
Another good one was the peg boards on the walls where you had to climb up them with a peg in each hand. Anyone else try them or know what I'm talking about?

To my knowledge band, cheerleading, extracurricular activities, and ROTC students may receive PE credit instead of taking PE. The state has considered the time a student puts in is whats relevant, not what they learn. I am a PE teacher, at the high school and a football coach, and I teach my students the value of health and fitness beyond what they learn in band, on the field, or cheering on the sideline. However, to my understanding it must be taken two seasons in a row.
