We hear daily of the drug addict found dead, known dealers die, suicidal individual jumped to their death, multi convicted drunk killed, career felon shot to death, gang murders ….do you really care?
If the police are involved we see the families of those type of people crying and wallowing displaying such a loss of a wonderful individual. ....do you really care?

Our Society spends much time and effort to protect people from themselves ...... should we?

Most of the time I don't care. I don't have time to worry about other people that I don't know and their problems. I am sorry for their loss but sometimes it is simply what it is, those individuals made their own beds!

Thats why I like watching the show The first 48. It's usually just criminals killing criminals and I don't feel bad for the dead person at all. If you didn't want to get shot then you shouldn't have been dealing drugs or robbing people.

I think we all become more apathetic to this problem as time goes by. When I first started teaching, I really thought I could solve all of their problems. Now, as long as I can deal with my own, I feel like I've had a pretty decent day. I guess I'm just tired of reading about it and seeing it night after night on TV. I guess I just don't have the energy to attack this issue any more.

The more people that get weeded out, the more resources there are for the rest of us! Therefore, I wholehearted support people (who aren't me) getting weeded out for any conceivable reason.

This is a tough one for me. My son died at age 18 from a drug overdose. He wasn't a bad kid, he just made a bad decision. He was a four year varsity letter winner in wrestling and a two year letter winner in football. Some posters on here know who he was. Like I said he just made a bad decision. He had smoked some pot every now and then and drank some beer. One night he tried some other drug he knew nothing about and it took his life.

Do I wish he was still alive? Hell yes. Do I wish he had died in a way that has less stigma attached to it other than drug overdose? Absolutely.

He wasn't a career drug user, or a thug. He loved life, maybe too much sometimes. Do I feel people look at me differently now because of his manner of death? Sometimes.

They're just a number or a statistic on TV, but obviously they are more than that to their family. Everyone has problems in their life. Some people just deal with it better than others.

I think it's interesting how people can judge you one way, and then someone makes a bad decision and now they want to judge you differently. You're still the same person you were before. I'm not saying you are, but IF you're a "bad" person now, you were before and their judgement was incorrect then. If you were a "good" person before, you still are now, and their judgement is incorrect now. Fuck them for judging you for someone else's decisions and not knowing who you are.

We can't measure a person's thoughts or intentions from a good or bad perspective. The only way you can determine a person's character is by the things they say and do.

Is it "our" place (as the owners of our governments) to protect people from their own decicions? Not IMO.

i can tell you one thing, i wish that the money spent on trying to arrest and hunt down those involved with the drug market was instead spent on rehabilitation and education (not DARE, im talking about actual education).

Well I didn't mean homes destroyed by hurricanes, car accidents, stuff like that. I am talking self destruction here, drugs, crimes, etc....

I find it a bit odd that we try to reform, rehabilitate, educate, save, etc. these types of individuals in a society that is so enamored with Darwinism and natural selection. Now, I'm certainly not saying that we should give every common criminal the chair or kill all babies born with mental of physical handicaps, but if we truly believe that weeding out the lesser members of a species in order to allow the stronger ones to thrive, ensuring the evolution and survival of a species, then shouldn't we celebrate when one of these types of individual, one who was less fit, was naturally selected to die because of their inferiority?

I think it's sad that our way of life and cost of living drives ppl to sell drugs and rob and steal. I know everything thinks that you should just go get a job and do it the honest way, but also I know that's not feasible for some ppl......

It's also sad that many people living in our world are depressed and empty and have to use drugs and alcohol to fill the void. That's life in America.

I'm sure there are exceptions, but most of the POS's that I know who would rob or steal could do something different. They're just too lazy.

How does being a criminal make someone less fit for natural selection? Who gets to determine who is more fit? Just because someone has a handicap doesn't mean they can't contribute. Maybe someone is physically handicapped, but they're really smart so they cure cancer and then improve society as a hole which makes the population more fit. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses, and there's no real way to determine which traits are good and which are not.

All other things being equal, criminals don't have any less fitness than non-criminals. So I don't think natural selection is gonna work on them in this regard.....

Yes, I care. I don't like to see anyone suffer a loss. That said, I have far less sympathy for those that knowingly do seriously wrong things.

I've been on both side of the equation - I lost a sister and brother-in-law who were victims of a criminal, and I have relatives on my wife's side of the family who have died of drug overdoses and who are serving time for serious felonies.

I honestly don't care. I mean, I sympathize for the friends and family of people who die but I just really can't care. There are far too many people in the world for me to cry every time one of them dies.
