CNBC right now. Womens Hockey had Canada ahead 12-0 with 5 mins still in 2nd period! Where is the Olympic spirit in calling off the female dogs? LOL

That would be hilarious if the announcers said something like, "hey, I think it's about time you call off the bitches."
But my feelings on this matter is, the Olympics are the best in the world, they're pros, and when it comes to pro sports, there's no such thing as calling off the dogs, or overkill. It ain't biddy league. If you can't stop 'em, oh well!

I kind of think that the Olympics are the one time where calling off the dogs isn't really a fair thing.
I agree with Tusky.

8 minutes left. Is 18-0 in a hockey game? isnt that enough?

Yikes. I mean, I still say calling off the dogs in the Olympics is a tough call.
But, 18-0????
I don't know, man. That's a hefty one.

How do you call the dogs off in hockey?
You can't put the backups in, because everybody plays.
You can slow down the pace of the game, but do you tell them to miss shots on purpose?
I think 18-0 is enough to make some kind of change with the way your team is playing.

All is well that ends well. Final was 18-0 and they could have scored 25 if they had tried.

You can't call off the dogs. Goal differential is a factor in seeding for the medal round, so there's no incentive not to run it up.

Eh, hopefully it will inspire these teams getting blown out to work harder and become more focused. I remember a time when the USa drilled countries in BBall. Then the world closed the gap. Sometimes a good ass-whipping is worth it......

I read an article by the Chinese coach who said they understand this is part of the Olympics. It was a good article and I do think he meant what he said. I don't recall which news source had the article, I read it yesterday.

The women's tourney is set up perfect if the USA can get by Finland to see a USA/Canada Gold medal game, which is what everyone wants to see. There's just not as much good hockey being played around the world and Europe as there is here. Most of the teams don't mind taking waxings to enjoy the Olympic experience and to find out how much better they have to get to compete on the World level at a regular basis

Nor should there be in the Olympics.

That's nothing compared to some of the olympic qualifying games. Slovenia beat Bulgaria something like 82-0 about a year ago.
