ESPN just reported that the Nets first choice for a new coach would be Coach K from Duke.

Not going to happen. The Lakers wanted him ages ago and he didn't take that job. No way he goes to New Jersey.

I disagree. The Olympics are the highest level of basketball in the world. You have the best players on each team. There are no Eric Snows or Theo Ratliffs.

Coach K won Gold. Keep in mind that they were called the Redeem Team for a reason and he had those guys playing hard.

His "system" is very close to what D'Antoni runs in New York (lots of 3s), the only difference is that Coach K has more focus on defense.

If this does happen, it will lure a superstar to the Nets. LeBron maybe???

lol the Nets are funny. Well I want to win the lottery and it's just not going to happen. If he would not go to the Lakers who had one of the best players in the league and a playoff team do they think he will go to a team that has won four games?

What is the relationship like between Lebron and Coach K?

I actually think the best hire for the Nets, if they are indeed focused on luring Lebron would be John Calipari. I don't think Calipari leaves Kentucky, but if NJ would have called a year earlier I think they would have got their guy.

Lebron loves Calipari and I think Calipari ends up in the NBA at some point again in the future.

From everything I remember reading/hearing, LeBron absolutely loved playing for Coach K for team USA.

And I don't think Cal is going anywhere, not with the class he has coming in. Oh wait, I said that last summer too....lol

This is their motivation. Coach K won't do it though. He passed up a much better job in LA to stay at Duke. He is going to retire from Duke.

Yeah I'm not sure I see him leaving Duke either. But I never saw Coach K as a L.A. guy. Once again, I'm not saying Coach K is leaving, but he went to Army (West Point, NY) so I can see the location being a draw for him. -He is also from Pennsylvania, but it is actually in the western part, so I don't really see that having an impact-

North Carolina > New Jersey location wise.

Well yeah, you might prefer North Carolina, and Coach K might too, I don't know. I was just saying that you never can really know how much the location will play into it. Sometimes guys just want to get closer to home.

As for me, I think I'd prefer to live minutes from New York City rather than in Durham, NC

Coach K is 60+ years old. NYC and NJ probably don't appeal much to his lifestyle anymore.

Gotta love the attempt at positioning themselves for a shot at landing a lottery pick and LBJ.

Odds favor LeBron staying which means you're selling a 4 win team and a numer 1 pick at best.

No Thanks.

Well obviously they'd love to have Lebron, but its not like Lebron is the only high impact free agent out there. There are plenty of other guys who have ties to Coach K from the Olympics who are great players. (D-wade & Bosh)

Well if they get the number 1 pick, which they will; they most likely will take John Wall. Coach K lost out on Wall in the recruiting and really wanted him. This would be a second chance to coach him.

And just throwing this out there(not a possibility in my mind). Maybe Bron has been holding out because he knew something regarding Coach K. I really don't think stuff like this happens, but you never know. Maybe K told him something over the past couple summers....

25% chance of John Wall isn't most likely.

I could see this. Duke has not really been Duke of old. Although still good. This may be a great time to get out and take that shot at the NBA. If it don't work I'd see him just retiring.

Same thing was said when the LA job came up. He isn't going anywhere.
