“There have been preliminary exchanges between the Big Ten and Texas,” the source told the Journal-World on Wednesday. “People will deny that, but it’s accurate.”
Pretty Interesting

I'm a HUGE Big 10 fan...and Big 10 only...but I doubt Texas is stupid enough to do this.
If the Big 10 is going to expand...I can only see a "smaller conference midwestern school" or Notre Dame biting. Face it...the Big 10 isn't the most attractive conference, and certainly doesn't have the current prestige of the Big 12.
I'm thinking Pittsburgh is the next Big 10 team.

Big XII has a really bad TV contract. Big Ten has one of the best in the country. That's why Texas would leave. $$.

From the link on the football forum (it's a long article, but I think interesting) Texas gets $12 million from the Big12 tv contract. (and they get a larger portion than most Big12 schools.) Every big 10 school gets $22 million from the big10 network.

Isnt the Big Ten the most profitable conference?? I would think that has too do with the huge schools we have creating so many alums and the ability for larger stadiums.
But because of the amount of money the conference makes, ANY school would entertain joining the conference.

Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and to a lesser extent Nebraska and Colorado do much better that the rest of the B-12 - each school keeps half of their TV and bowl-game money.gorocks99 wrote: Big XII has a really bad TV contract. Texas would gain, but on a much smaller scale than would Missouri, who would gain $15-20 million PER YEAR by moving to the Big Ten. They will be the team to make the move if anyone does it.
Trust me - for that kind of money, most of the BCS AD's would sell their cheerleaders to a whorehouse in Thailand if they could get away with it.

Big 10 is a midwest conference. GET A MIDWEST TEAM! I want either Pitt or Mizzou.

Texas would be tight for the money.

I agree that Mizzou will be all over the Big Ten. I don't think they like the way the Big 12 does things.

There are $10 million reasons why that is bad logic.SnotBubbles wrote: I'm a HUGE Big 10 fan...and Big 10 only...but I doubt Texas is stupid enough to do this.

Aside from the obvious lack-of-sense it makes travel wise, I would love to see this get done. Don't think it will happen though. Texas has too many historical rivalries in the Big 12 (Oklahoma, Texas A&M) for me to really see them leaving. But, money makes people make odd decisions sometimes.

Why does it not make sense travel-wise? Seeing that you live in California, you might have some knowledge of the PAC 10. Washington states campus to arizona's campus is actually a couple hundred miles farther away than austin to columbus.BuckeyeBlue wrote: Aside from the obvious lack-of-sense it makes travel wise, I would love to see this get done. Texas is a different part of the universe. There is a strong discussion down there about kicking out the rest of the B12 and reforming the SWC - without Arkansas, and adding other Texas schools (SMU, TCU, UTEP).
Call it the "carpetbagger factor".

I guess I'm talking from a historical Big 10 standpoint. I know other conferences are more spread out than the Big 10 (the ACC goes from Boston to Miami).Pick6 wrote:Why does it not make sense travel-wise? it is Unamerican for Texas to be in the "Big Ten". Is everyone just crazy? Couldn't we at least have a team within 1,000 miles of the rest of the league schools? I think that you can't get a much better natural rivalry than when the Long horns and the Northwestern Wildcats hook up? (Are you f'ing kidding me?????)

I could only see a Texas/BIg 12 fan complaining about this. I dont know why you wouldnt want another big time team in your conference.

The rearranging worked for the Big East and ACC before even though the choices might have seemed odd at the time.

Texas won't join, Mizzou on the other hand might bite and take the oppurtunity.

Doesn't the B10 have a rule where new members have to be in an adjoining state with another B10 team? Unless they get rid of that rule, then Texas can't join the B10.

That's what I thought too. But I've read in a few different places that that never existed. Even if it does exist you have to figure at the end of the day it won't matter. Money talksGoPens wrote: Doesn't the B10 have a rule where new members have to be in an adjoining state with another B10 team?

If Hawaii can afford to send teams to Louisiana Tech for league games, then I'm sure Big 10 schools can afford trips to Austin and vise versa.Pick6 wrote:Why does it not make sense travel-wise?
