I think a few of the guys will shift, but not too many. Most of the guys that have to make a serious cut might use this as a benchmark for their weight cutting.Mat Shark wrote: with it being plus 5, how many of those guys are actually going to be at those weights?

So if the coach doesn't show OR is late due to a traffic jam, then the kids are the ones that suffer?Power half wrote: Westerville North didn't show for the meeting.
Demas should be there....no ifs ands or buts
Couldn't the coaches who were there voted him in even if his head coach was not present??

Some coach's do not participate and some go to other previews.

dad4sports: While I totally agree that coaches should want their kids to be involved in this, I don't think it serves everyone the same.
Power Half is right that some coaches choose not to participate in this. And that is their choice. I think coaches have the responsibility to their team first.
A team only gets one preview. If Coach Grant opted to put Demas in this, any member of his team that didn't get in, would not be able to wrestle in a preview. Sure, they'd get the two scrimmages, but those aren't previews. Which is better??? Coach Grant has to answer that for his team. And every other coach for their team.
Let's not be too quick to jump to conclusions...what if there is something else to it? Trying to study for a couple of classes...taking a drivers exam...injured...out of town with family before the season really gets into swing...etc. Maybe "Sweet" Lou has him locked up in the basement watching Belaglosov until wee hours in the morning!!!
Oh well... still should be a great night of wrestling!

Only 2 Olentangy kids in D2/D3 combined?

There were plenty of kids entered without a coach present . . . BUT their coach requested it.
Agreed that Demas should be in there, but no one knows if Coach Grant had another preview planned or what.

Yes, it's voting. The board has a weight class on it and names are tossed out.
Consider DI 103... Those names, along with maybe two or three other were listed. When asked to give credentials, each coach spoke up. "DQ." "DP." "Sectional Placer." "1 and 2 at the state tournament."
With this fake list of credentials, obviously the sectional qualifier (much to my dismay,
) would be erased. Now it is down to who is left. Let's say two kids are on the board, and they never met head to head, but both went 2-2 at the District tournament. Those two would come down to a coaches vote.

So how do the "other" 2 or 3 names get listed? Is criteria used?

Hilarious, Lou. Good to see you here! Congrats on Josh signing with OSU - that is awesome! Tell him we're excited to be watching a hometown guy wrestling for the Buckeyes! While it's no secret that I'm a Michigan fan, to have my son offered a D1 scholorship anywhere - especially the Big 10, would be amazing! Josh has worked very hard for the privledge and I know he'll make the most of it.Lou Demas wrote: He was watching Saitiev and was chained in the basement. He broke the lock!

Ahhhh! dad4sports. I get your question.
Any name at any weight can be offered. But once they go down the pecking order, names will get erased. I know for a fact our 103 pounder wasn't going to get the nod, so I didn't put him up there. Heck! He didn't even participate in the sectional tournament, so there is no way he's beating out DQs or even a SQ.
One point to note: It must be the coach that submits the name, or the coach through the DI representative. I couldn't throw anybody else's kid on the board.
Hope that clears things up. My bad with the confusion.

Justus/Beatty I think will be fun based on styles I remember from 2 years ago.
