NFL considers ban on three point stance to continue to attempt to reduce concussions. I have never thought that a high level of concussions happened from the initial line contact.

What? Yeah, how about the free safety and lb's? These guys get 10+ yard runs and hit people. Offensive and defensive linemen have maybe 3 to 4 feet seperating themselves, I dont care how big you are, I would rather be hit by an O linemen in a 3 point, than a free safety with a 10 yard start!

honestly, a radical idea i think would be to take away helmets and make the pads smaller and soft(basically take the game back 100 years). players wont be as willing to lead with their head when they know they could mess up their face or head. that goes for everyone, when a running back is hitting the hole he'll be more defensive about it and the defender wont just dive head first into a pile to make a big hit. the pads and helmets make the players feel almost invincible out there, take that away and see what happens.

the downside, the game probably wont be as hard hitting or exciting for people.

Roger Goodell is going to sanatize the league to the point that it will no longer be football. They will have to come up with a new name for the sport.

That's gotta be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of... take away the 3 point stance and this becomes the Arena League with an 100 yard field... everybody is going to be throwing the ball every down

Actually pads have gotten so small nowadays (because players want to be as light and fast as possible) that the helmet is the only weapon they have left with which to hit without hurting their shoulders or arms. That's why guys want to hit with their head.

They need to force players to wear bigger shoulder pads, like they did back in the 70's. Some huge neck rolls and some big ass forearm pads, lol.

But seriously pads are getting smaller, even for D-line and LB's. Many guys don't even where thigh pads anymore....

I notice its mostly guys not wearing knee pads, which I don't undertstand why you could go out there not wearing them.

Yeah, even if they do wear pads in their pants they are tiny. IIDK how you could go w/out knee pads. But notice how tiny the shoulder pads have gotten over the years. Even defensive players are wearing shoulder pads that look like those a QB would wear.....

its all about letting them be a quick as possible.... no regard for safety anymore... there were plenty of times in HS I was glad I wore a big set of pads

I just commented on that the other day.. If you look back even 10-15 years, the shoulder pads are HUGE. Bulk theplayers back up and make them wear all the pads like in High School.

knee pads don't do a thing. never understood why you had to wear them. thigh pads at least provide some level of protection from contusions...

I wonder if we are near the point where technological improvments in head gear has reached the zenith, or if enough changes can be made to helmets to all but eliminate head injuries????

The problem isn't the equipment, its the players not tackling properly. How often do you actually see a form tackle? Very few times...

That (proper tackling) won't solve the problem of head to head contact b/t lineman though....

Yeah. I know there are a lot of concussions, but I wasn't aware that a significant portion of them were taking place between linemen who are less than four feet away from each other.

The repetitive bashing of heads probably has a cumulative effect on the brain more than it's one catastophic injury such as a concussion.....

I'd like to hear the stats regarding concussions pre-"new NFL Pro Helmets" vs. post-"new NFL Pro Helmets". Seems to me that that I've heard more and more about concussions since the inception of these helmets than before.
