I'm needing a new project to work on and I am throwing around the idea of building myself a little storage server to hook up to my home network for backups and storing movies, music, etc.

Anyone ever built one? If so, do you have any suggestions on hardware and/or software. I've found a pretty promising software called unRAID that I am reading up on at the moment.

XBMC is wonderful.
