From Rolling Stone's (Somehwat respectable) "Immortals: The 100 Greatest Artists Of All Time" Tribute:

http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/5939216/the_immortals__the_greatest_artists_of_all_time_11_bob_marley

One of my favorite versions of "Redemption Song" by ex Clash frontman Joe Strummer:

I'm a moderate fan of his music, I don't always like what it's come to stand for, which I won't bore anyone by elaborating on, but at the core, I think Marley was a fantastic songwriter. One of the best songwriters to never get any credit, really.

I like Marley somewhat. I'm a fan of Reggae music. I will say there are many songs by Bob that I don't care for and some that I like. Nothing by him really blew me away.

the Clash however, that's a different story. Thanks for posting that link.

I'm a fan. Not a huge fan to the point where I've made owning a lot of his stuff a priority or listen to it all the time, but I do love listening to him every once in a while.

Good stuff. When you're "relaxed", it's the best music I've ever listened to lol.

I've never been much of a Reggae or Marley fan. It just doesn't do anything for me, but I respected his talent and could and still can listen to him. I just don't have him on my list of top favorites.

Yeah, I think I actually know more people that just can't get into him (but do respect), than those that can.

And, yeah, SYL...I love, love, love the Clash.

I could argue London Calling as the GOAT album, but I'm always on the fence about that.

I agree that London Calling is in the top 3 GOAT albums. If you narrow the field to punk albums then it's easy.

one of my favorite lyrics of all time comes from 'no woman, no cry'.

'then we would cook cornmeal porridge,
of which i'll share with you'.

really simple yet beautiful line. it is widely believed that marley wrote 'no woman, no cry', however when he recorded it the writing credits went to a man named Vincent Ford. Ford was a friend from trenchtown who ran a soup kitchen there. the royalties that ford received from this song allowed him to financially support the soup kitchen, feeding many poor jamaicans.

it makes the meaning of this lyric even more powerful, and shows how much of a kind generous soul bob marley was.
