I quit watching UCLA basketball about 6 weeks ago because they resembled a low level high school team. I just looked at the PAC-10 standings and the Bruins are one of four teams tied for 1st place with a 6-4 record.
If UCLA wins the PAC=10, Ben Howland should get some consideration for "Coach of the Year".

PAC10 is BAD. I think Howland is a very good coach. But I wouldn't take much into this year considering the PAC10 may only get one or two teams in NCAA.

I think its more the fact that he is in first (with a 6-4 record) shows just how bad that conference is. UCLA hasnt started playing much better than before, yet they are tied for first...

Actually, the Bruins have 5 of their last 7(I think) on the road. They have benefited by weak conference and a favorable schedule to date.

I honestly have no idea who will win that conference. It is a complete toss up. I think the WCC is a tougher conference at this point.

For whatever reason, it seems that the PAC 10 is not the Conference it used to be in a number of sports. I think this type of thing generally runs it's course and turns back to former levels of competitiveness regardless of the league we are looking at. Now, I have to tell you that it doesn't upset me that the PAC 10 Conference seems to be down. I don't care for the conference and enjoy seeing things even up. I do think that Coach Howland is a good coach, but the quality of the PAC 10 right now may have contributed to UCLA's recent resurgence in their Conference. Bottom line? Part Coach Howland's skill, part the result of a weaker league than in the last few years.
