as a coach myself, not in central ohio, coaches generally have a very good idea about what a teams really about. if a few missed it then ok its possible its a mistake...but when all have missed them, im sorry to say but your team probably isnt as good as you think...

^^^All have missed it. Why? They can't see daylight. Their heads are buried to deep. As an example how can a .500 team like Bishop Ready, who Alder beat, get ranked while the Alder team isn't? The Ready team has not played better competition. If I'm not mistaken the Alder girls have lost only 3 games all to schools with winning records. Again, the Dispatch coaches poll is a joke!

Alder is Division II this year, so comparing someone they beat in DIII doesn't really justify why they should be rate in the DII poll. Looking at the teams rated in DII, they seem to have a more legitimate case for their ranking than Alder.

Right, jackass, and as the guy above you just pointed out to you ALDER IS DIVISION II this year, not division III. Therefore, Ready is not ranked "ahead" of Alder, since they're in different divisions. A class teaching critical reading skills might be a good investment for you.

So according to your logic, if say Franklin Heights, a DI school, beat Gilead Christian, a DIV school who is ranked in DIV, then they should be ranked in DI? I could see if a DIV or DIII school beat a ranked DI or DII, then that is something that would be considered a good win. Looking at Alder's schedule so far, their best wins are Ready and North Union, both DIII schools. Have you seen Ready play this year other than the Alder game? They are inconsistent at best. A win over them may not be the best case I'd be wanting to make for my team in terms of why they should be seeded. If you look at the competition in DII, with the likes of Olentangy, Big Walnut, and the city league schools who play DI and DII competition night in and night out, that's most likely why Alder isn't as high as you'd like. Alder did get the 6 seed in the tournement, so I'd say that's pretty good for them. They even got a higher seed than DeSales, who Alder they lost to. For a DIII school, Alder's competition level would be good, in DII it's just average. Alder would probably be ranked in DIII if they were still there.

Most people will tell you that the state poll means squat, and that the coaches poll is much more accurate. Teams that generally are always good seem to get more credit in the state polls. But like you said, they were ranked 5th in the Dispatch poll today. And frankly, if I was a coach I would be much more concerned with the seeding I got at the draw, because last time I checked they don't hand out trophies for the winners of the polls.

I quit reading after this, because you obviously have no idea how high school basketball rankings are compiled. Alder's record? Great. But there best wins are over two division 3 schools, and they recently lost to a Hilliard Bradley team who isn't even one of the top teams in their DISTRICT in division II. You can sit and beat DIII and DIV teams all you want, but it's not going to get you much respect if you're a DII team. Sorry, that's the way it works. My alma mater is in a similar situation this year; we're DII...15-1 right now. The only team that beat us is also 15-1 and 7th in the state (AP poll) in DIII. We turned around and beat them the second time we played them, on the road. We also have a win over another very good DIII team in Heath (13-4). Do you think we're ranked? Nope. And we don't deserve to be. We've only played one other DII school all year (River View) and we beat them, but one win over a struggling D.II team, and two wins over smaller schools don't get you ranked. If you think you "deserve" to be ranked based on the fact you beat up on smaller schools consistently, while many of the teams that ARE ranked are playing many other D.II and even D.I schools, you my friend are the one with your head so far up your ass that you "can't see the light" as you claim. It's great that they're ranked now (so maybe you can dry your tears for a second), but it's not like it matters much anyway. Your seeding is the real number you should be analyzing; and trust me, you aren't as good as you think you are if your getting a 6 seed.

A division II team who plays a schedule full of other division II and division I schools and finishes the regular season 14-6 will ALWAYS get more respect and a higher ranking than a team that finishes the regular season 20-0, playing a weak schedule OR a schedule full of all smaller schools. And you can take that straight to the bank.

Sorry if this post makes you upset or hurts your feelings :rolleyes: but this thread is so dripping with personal bias that us other posters are practically drowning. Take off the gold-colored glasses and open your eyes a little. If not, they'll be opened in a few weeks anyway.

OH, and by the way, can you just answer a question for me please???? Say a Division II team that is 3-16 on the year is playing a Division III team that is 19-0, and ranked in the state poll. That 3-16 team miraculously upsets the undefeated, state-ranked team. By what you posted above, that 3-16 should automatically be ranked in THEIR division, because they beat a state ranked team in a SMALLER division? Please explain.

There is a small panel of coaches who vote on the poll published by the Dispatch.
DI coaches vote only for the DI poll. DII coaches, including Jon Alder's are on the panel to vote for the DII schools. DIII coaches vote for DIII Teams. DIV for DIV.
Most coaches who are on these panels really do not want to vote. They figure its really a waist of time. But they do it to create some public relations. They can also vote for their own teams. They all know tournament seedings include the votes from all the coaches involved in their respective divisions. Coaches do not care what the public thinks about the results. They know the tournament will answer all questions who are the better and eventually the best teams. Who beat whom earlier in the year means absolutely nothing.
There are more teams in Division II who are better than DIII schools just because they have a bigger selection of athletes to choose from. The ranking for someone like Jonathan Alder in DII is comparing them with schools in their own division, not with a school in other divisions, or someone they beat.
Be Nice, your moaning about Alder's lack of rating until this week in one division, because they beat a ranked school in another division, has no true logic. It's dumb and it's quite obvious you are directly involved as a parent, player, relative or maybe even a coach. So chill your self-esteem. Your school for this year will be rated by comparing them with schools their own size.

years ago as a JV softball coach my varsity coach called me at the last minute to tell me that I needed to go to the district meeting in the fall and if I didn't our girls would be left out of everything... ect... I had plans I had to break and to THIS Day (8 years later) my wife brings it up!

Anyway... towards the end of the meeting they brought up that with a coach leaving they needed a coach in our division for the dispatch poll... lots of groans... so I raised my hand and volunteered our varsity coach... even saying "that'll teach him to send me!" drawing a laugh...

now he did his best to follow the teams and vote what he believed... but it is what it is... and I think 99% of the coaches would simply like to see it go away! (they have enought to worry about besides fans getting upset because their team didn't get a vote!)

Hey Sparky.....Be Nice said it like it is and I totally agree with him. As an ex coach I saw first hand how some coaches would not vote for a team no matter how good they were. Why? Many had there asses handed to them in a big loos to that team. Payback? You bet. The Alder girls team has only lost 4 games this year. At one point in the season they were ranked 17th in the state as Be Nice mentioned. However, that same week they were not anywhere in the Dispatch coaches poll. Explain that! And no I'm not an Alder fan and really know nothing about their program except they do have a decent team this year.

It's dumb or stupid on your part to assume he is associated with the team in the ways you mentioned. Self esteem? Should we assume you're an ex coach and Alder hater? We all have opinions and I dissagree with yours.

tell us what teams they should be ranked in front of and why?

(one thing that might help is if their results were being reported! even thier own web site doesn't have a score listed after Mid January! (or have they only played 14 games?)
