Why isn't he in the Basketball Hall Of Fame?
Just read a story about him and he has the numbers and a HOF type Career.
I still remember when Artis (7'2") and Pembrook Burroughs(7'1") teamed up at Jacksonville and playing UCLA in the NCAA Finals. I also had the pleasure of watching the NCAA tourney at St John Arena when Jacksonville (Gilmore) Kentucky(Issel) Notre Dame (Carr) and Iowa (Downtown Freddie Brown) played in the Regionals there.

Id vote him in based on his numbers. Also, best afro ever!!

No MVP's
Every player with an MVP that is eligible is in the HOF.

No All-NBA 1st Team selections.
According to basketballreference.com two or more selections to the NBA 1st team pretty much punches your ticket to the HOF.

Never playing on an NBA championship team probably doesn't help his case.
Career being split between the ABA and NBA doesn't help either.
If he had played his entire career in the NBA his totals for points(24,941), rebounds(16,330) and blocks(3,178) would have put him in the HOF a long time ago.
Combined those totals are very impressive but that is not the case once the numbers are separated to represent play in each league.

Since he is not already in the HOF his chances of getting there are probably pretty slim.

Minus 1 championship, Gilmore's stats are better/or equeal to Dr. J. He needs to be in the HOF!!

Hardly.

Dr J won an MVP and was All NBA 1st team 5 times as compared to a goose egg in both for Gilmore.

The differences in stats are what you would expect for a center and a forward.

Gilmore's stats are better than, Patrick Ewings who is in the hall.
Also Gilmore has the best FG% in NBA history.
You can't punish Gilmore for playing in the ABA, which probally had better talent than the NBA at that time.

Well since he retired in 1988 I guess that would make sense.:rolleyes:

He was one of my ABA favorites, and may have been the best player in that league.

I remember also. And that was Pembrook Burroughs the 3rd. LOL
