Not really surprising. The city campuses have more crime. Duh.

I would have expected to see USC a little higher since it's basically in South Central LA.

I am honestly surprised that Youngstown State didn't make this list. But then again they are looking at property crimes. Youngstown Ohio has the highest murder rate per capita in the US and the college sits right in one of the worst sections of town...

yay for living right next to lane/high at OSU! Although, I would have to say the majority of crimes in that area are a lot less severe than those on Summit/12th, which is right on the fringe of the hood.

I'm calling shenanigans on this "statistic"! Where is your source? Let me guess you pulled it out of your ass!!sonofsam wrote: I am honestly surprised that Youngstown State didn't make this list. Don't worry, I don't blame you I blame the school system! LOL...New Orleans has by far the nation's highest per-capita murder rate.
Using the highest of those population estimates, the city last year recorded 55 murders per 100,000 residents. The number used by the FBI notches that up to 64 murders per 100,000 people.

USC is in the middle of the latino ghetto basically, but a lot of that campus is "boxed" in. I visited there for shits and giggles, and it is really a "different" campus. It is so cramped with every building seemingly 2 blocks from eachother. Not surprised they are up there though. I got mean mugged by a lot of locals.
OSU is going to be up there when you have that many students and when located in a huge city. Shit happens.

I would beg to differ ... Minnesota is just as big and in a bigger city but doesn't appear on the list.detectivegibbles wrote: OSU is going to be up there when you have that many students and when located in a huge city. Shit happens.

I would venture a guess (and I may be wrong) that many of these arrests happen on football game-days (public intoxication, running on the street, fights, etc), as one the mentioned areas was Neil and Lane Avenue. The University of Minnesota used to play all of its home football games at the Metrodome, which is not the campus area (I believe). I am sure this number will go up now that they play their games on campus ...gorocks99 wrote:I would beg to differ ... This is probably true (although that list has to do with property crimes). Good point.

I think the article said it is property crimes, which means breaking and entering, larceny, etc. I would be willing to guess the reason for this is these areas being by the ghetto.BigAppleBuckeye wrote: I would venture a guess (and I may be wrong) that many of these arrests happen on football game-days (public intoxication, running on the street, fights, etc), as one the mentioned areas was Neil and Lane Avenue. I honestly don't think it is from gameday shenanigans.
It is well known throughout Columbus that those areas and others around campus can be pretty rough, relatively speaking.
