I found this old rare clip of him being interviewed by Dick Vitale during the McDonalds All-American game in 1989. My goodness he was skinny and sounded young

And he played point guard during that game. I remember it like it was yesterday.

I believe it. I was watching some of his high school highlights and people forget how ATHLETIC he was for a man his size. So many times he would be leading the fast break with his handles.THE4RINGZ wrote: And he played point guard during that game. I remember it like it was yesterday.

Shaq blocks a shot, dribbles from coast to coast, and finish the fast break with a jam -

He was such a freak athlete. And it's impressive the way his game has involved as he lost some (all) of that athleticism from his early days.

I've always been a fan of Shaq. Dude was always a good person and a freakish athlete. He's also got a high IQ for the game, which has helped him evolve it at his older age.

You obviously never saw Chamberlain, Russell or Kareem Jabbar play -- or you wouldn't say that. He's fourth behind those three, so far as centers go.77Legend wrote: Definitely the most dominant big man ever......

I don't think he watched the Rockets/Magic Finals either when Akeem totally dominated Shaq.Writerbuckeye wrote:You obviously never saw Chamberlain, Russell or Kareem Jabbar play -- or you wouldn't say that. Actually I did see those guys play. The most dominant force I will still go with Shaq. I mean brute strength.
SkyHook...lol, yes comparing a 3 year guy at the time to a complete veteran, lol. Ok. You proved your point.

Wilt was more dominant in his day yes...But i think Shaq in his Prime would man handle each and every one of them in the post. They would finese him on offense true...But Shaq would back down and dunk on all of those legendary big men

I disagree. Both Wilt and Russell were very physical players and NOBODY would have man handled them. Kareem was more of a finesse center, it's true, but he would have worked Shaq to the point that he would have melted into a puddle of sweat.Hb31187 wrote: Wilt was more dominant in his day yes...But i think Shaq in his Prime would man handle each and every one of them in the post. Those games where Chamberlain played Russell were like King Kong vs. Godzilla -- it was brute force against brute force. To think somehow Shaq is more physical than either is simply not true.

Shaq had the good fortune to get to play in an era of very average to bad centers.

Skyhook may have been overdoing it a bit, but if Shaq was in his prime 5 years earlier he wouldn't have dominated like he did.
BUT..
We must remember Shaq only truly came to play one season.

Writerbuckeye, you are not going people on here. These whippersnappers don't believe anyone who played prior to the 1990's could compete with players today. I recall being young once too but it always amazes me how the youth think they know better than people who saw great players of both eras play.
