Boxing overload this weekend. Still haven't figured out how I'm going to set the dvr.
Friday Night Fights on espn:
Jesse Brinkley(34-5) vs Curtis Stevens(21-2)
imo this is a darn good match up. The winner will be the IBF mandatory for Bute. Neither has any chance at all of beating Bute.
Here is the rest of the espn show:
http://boxrec.com/show_display.php?show_id=591565
Shobox tonight:
Main event is bantamweights.
Chris Avalos(14-0) vs Jose Nieves(17-1-3)
Rest of the card:
http://boxrec.com/show_display.php?show_id=592151
imo Shobox this month is crap, only Gary Shaw could get this on Showtime.
FSN tonight:
By far the best line up of the night imo.
Light heavyweights headline this week.
Beibut Shumenov(8-1) vs Gabriel Campillo(19-2)
This is for Campillo's WBA belt and is a rematch of a very close fight won by Campillo last year.
Erislandy Lara(9-0) vs Grady Brewer(26-11)
Huge step up in class for Lara.
Grady Brewer fights won't make anybody forget Gatti but he's a tough gatekeeper. I will be impressed if Lara walks right through Grady.
Rest of the event:

Boxing is on FSN again tomorrow night.
Jorge Arce(52-6-1) vs Angky Angkota(23-4)
Arce vs the heavy bag would be entertaining, he's always fun to watch.
So far Arum is delivering quality shows to FSN. Much better than the trash he screwed VS network with.
Telemundo has a show headlined by Jesus Ruiz vs Luis Melendez tomorrow as well.

Do you know anything about the Friday night welterweight match? On paper, a 11-0 vs. 13-2-1 match sounds good and could make tonight a fun two-match card to watch, but depending on the caliber of guys those two have fought, it could also be a prospect vs. a normal guy who's gotten a good record solely by fighting nobodies.

That's what it looks like.
Serrano is 20 years old and building his record.
Warrior is 33 and has been out of the ring longer than Serrano has been a pro.

What a great fight in the FNF main event last night!!
Brinkley sold out the arena putting a very vocal crowd in his corner and he gave them what they came to see.
Stevens only strategy was to KO Brinkley and Jesse didn't back down from a firefight. Stevens busted up Jesse's face in the first round and it looked like he might get the KO after a few rounds. Stevens has the big punch but Jesse was just a better boxer last night, gave him a boxing lesson and a beating. He had the fight won going into the 12th and still worked hard trying to get a KO.
Probably the best performance Brinkley has ever had.
After that ended I switched to FSN, Shumenov/Campillo was already in the 3rd round and they had declared war on one another too. Another great action fight, neither boxer was interested in using a jab, nothing but bombs in this fight. Never seen Campillo before, very impressed with him, I saw 8 full rounds and only saw Shumenov winning one of them............then watched the judges hand a gift decision to Shumenov.
I have not seen their first fight which was in Kazakhstan but my understanding of it is that the decision for Campillo in that one was very questionable which lead to the WBA ordering this rematch. They are even up now and the WBA should order a rubber-match.
Great action fight but a bad decsion imo.

I liked the Brinkley-Stevens fight, too. Brinkley did a great job of weathering an early storm and then just pounded on Stevens.
Didn't even think about the FSN fight afterwards. Sounds like I missed an entertaining one.

It was a very good one, decision stunk but apparently the first one did too.
Without a title belt I think Campillo is going to have a hard time getting good fights.
The other top guys are going to go near him if they can avoid it.
