That place is getting a bit out of control, mainly because of the Lakers/Cavs rivalry and the NFL playoffs.
I think we should do one of two things:
1. Assign that forum to a current regular mod
2. Recruit another mod to handle that place
I'll volunteer for option #1 if it's cool.
That forum is becoming nothing more than a personal battleground.

After the penis post in there yesterday I was thinking a mod was needed there as well.

I don't post in there as much as I used to, trying to clean up my act a little bit around here haha.
Since I'm a mod I guess I have to have credibility or some shit

I am always reading it, but I let most of the lebron/kobe pissing matches go. Other than the penis thread yesterday, I don't really see too much that is really that bad on there. Now the college football board on the other hand.........

I reported the Greg Oden thread but no one ever did anything about it. I wasn't sure if anything should be done about it. I think one thing that needs to be done is the rules from Serious Business needs to be moved there so it's clear what the rules are.
And I think under those rules we could hand out temporary bands to a couple of people for making it personal... Sage, h2izzo or whatever, and SQ maybe. I forget who specifically but there are a few who are definitely making it peronal.

It just seems like every thread ends with
"You're such a homer childish pussy" blah blah..
and yes, the college football forum needs work.. but that's always gonna be the case in there.

^^^I agree, but most of that is from skyhook and a couple cavs fans, so I just take it for what it is.....douchieness..lol.
It does amaze me that sleeper can get a rise out of people....he is soooooo far over the top that he cant be taken seriously. I had to laugh on the old huddle when someone asked him his opinion on Kobe and his response was...."Kobe is a role player"......lol

Also, we wouldn't have hardly any problems in the pro sports forum if justin would quit starting Jets threads.....pissing off Mike Clark...haha

That was a thread I wasn't sure how to handle or if it should be handled. It's a legit (if tabloidish) story about a pro athlete doing something stupid. But it has a link to a picture that made me feel very inadequate and sad....I mean is NSFW and pretty much inappropriate for most any board.Fly4Fun wrote: I reported the Greg Oden thread but no one ever did anything about it. But yeah, the "personal" stuff is really annoying. I like the NBA. Not my favorite pro sport, but it's fun to talk about. But it's like CFB where I just don't like talking about it here because there are too many emotionally insecure man-children who turn everything into name-calling and insults...where if you disagree with them, you're automatically an idiot because they consider themselves as expert authorities on everything NBA-related.

I thought the penis thread was edgy, but it never got offensive......so I just watched it to make sure it didn't get out of control. I thought about looking for another pic that had an "edited image", but I never got around to it.

I think someone should take control of the forum and go through and just lock everything and post a sticky thread that says "Start over"

I really do believe the rules should be posted at the top of that forum to help even start giving guidelines.

Not really. People are too worried about this site turning into JJhuddle rather than moderating in a reasonable fashion IMO.Fly4Fun wrote:Too much like JJHuddle.LJ wrote: I think someone should take control of the forum and go through and just lock everything and post a sticky thread that says "Start over"

I personally think having something like "A Kitchen" where any thread with just people attacking each other is dumped to keep real discussion going in subforums. Why have specific subforums if we let it all go to shit? I know I have been involved in some name calling with some of the normal offenders, but having a forum like that would cut down on every thread going into the shitter.
We shouldn't be afraid to moderate if we don't like what is going on.

I think what some people would consider moderating in a reasonable fashion would be more like JJ... which is why we should be weary of that.LJ wrote:Not really. I think locking up every thread and saying start over would just be trying to take the easy way out. There are plenty of legit threads and discussions in threads that have become shitty.
Honestly, I would probably do more Moderating in ther eif the rules were posted at the top so I could point to rule #1 - don't make it personal. That would be a start. Would it solve the problem... hell no. But it's a step in the right direction.

I don't think so. Shutting things down when they get out of hand, giving warnings that a thread needs to go back on topic quickly or it's getting closed, bans for racist comments, etc. All of those are very reasonable and doesn't make the site like JJ at all.Fly4Fun wrote:I think what some people would consider moderating in a reasonable fashion would be more like JJ... which is why we should be weary of that.LJ wrote:Not really. I agree with both of you. Having the rules clearly defined and posted is a good start. Also included in there is the clause that if a moderator feels something is over the line, it's gone. Unlike JJ, however, I hope we can keep it reasonable and give explainations for what we do (e.g. that picture was inappropriate, off topic, etc)
