I just got a surprise bonus @ work today, and would like to surprise the wife with a 3-4 day Mini Vacation. Any ideas of where we can really stretch our dollars? Looking to spend $500 to $600.

Could always do DC if you haven't been or haven't been in a while.

$500-$600 in 3-4 days? Going to be pretty boring.

That's why I said DC, most of the things are free to get in if I remember.

I'm not sure where you are from but $500 to $600 doesn't go very far in most major U.S. cities. Instead of going away, you could put that toward a very nice dinner somewhere, or perhaps treat yourself and the misses to a spa weekend. It would be a lovely Valentine's Day gift.

I think I may be looking at NY. You can stay across the river in NJ for about $110 a night at a 3+ star place, and then take the subway into town. Now I need some good things to do there.. Help me out if you know the area well.

Smokey Mountains. Use your money for lodging, food, and gas. Explore the national park for free.

Just to warn you...it gets pricey to take the subway from Jersey to New York.

If you want to surprise your wife, we would need to know what she likes to do to answer the question.

Buy a couple bottles of champagne and do her. Then drink the champagne while she cleans your house.

I stay at the Homewood Suite (overlooks the hudson) in Weehawken, Hoboken area. It is right near the New York Fairy terminal and about a half mile or so from the Lincoln Tunnel. Very nice suites for around $170 for last minute stays. May be able to get a better deal. You then can take the fairy to Manhatten for like $20. It's still going to be tough to not spend more than 5-6 hundred for 3-4 days.

I paid something like 15 bucks to ride from Summit, NJ into NYC.

The 15 was for an all-day pass too

ADVICE: If you decide to go to NYC, do NOT try to simply drive into the city and park somewhere. I did that the first time I went there, paid 50 bucks to park in a garage all day. Def. stay in jersey, ride the train to NYC.

Nashville. No chance you stay under 1k near NYC for 3 nights or more traveling from Ohio. Just tolls, gas, hotel and taxes, subway, and eating at cheaper food locations will put you at 1k.

I'm not sure what you are looking for but if you just want to get away with your wife and relax a couple days you might be interested in The Cass Railroad tours in Cass W.Va.
They have cottage rentals for like $100 a night. It's close and the tours are cheap and it's really nice this time of year.
If interested just Google Cass Railroad.

I doubt you'll make it too far out of Ohio on $500-$600.

I hear there are some really good deals in Vegas right now. Even at the better places like Bellagio.
